PIB to LSC....

Was talking to another forum member about running up to LSC from the PIB area next year and thought it would be cool if we got some more people to join along. I've never ran up there from PIB and I know there are a few guys who haven't either so if there was ever a time to do it a large group would probably be the best time. Not sure exactly where to stay once you get there but I'm sure a few will chime in and let us know.

No exact dates picked, I was thinking spring time, but doesn't have to be and maybe a Friday departure from the bay area with a return on Sunday unless people want to extend it. Anyone interested?

Lk st Clair metro park. Great place to stay, new facilities and clean. Close to party spots and bars.

I agree great central location, also if you stay anywhere in Harrison Twp. they have a free shuttle that will take you to the local bars.

You guys know I'm in!

Elizabeth Park on the Detroit River is a nice place too (located in Trenton). You guys will have to keep me posted on what date you pick. Maybe I can meet you at the harbor light or something like that.

Have the # saved. Used to pick us up ant take us to a friends house then take us back home. No DUI worries.. :drink: What a great service!

s022mag 10-09-2013 01:15 PM

Are either parks first come first serve or do they take reservations?

Also I was thinking a good time to go is when PIB is having a regatta or when some club rents a whole dock for the weekend. Might be a good time to get away.

s022mag 01-30-2014 11:58 AM

Getting closer. Any takers?

I would meet up with you guys when you get here and show you around a bit. Lots of things to do.

low_psi 01-30-2014 04:32 PM

There is a nice little sand bar just south of the Trenton Channel (on the US side in Gibralter) to stop at anchor jump in and have a few beverages. Usually where you can find me on any given Saturday/Sunday.....

DanG28 01-31-2014 03:26 PM

I'd def be interested in a group going the other way. From LSC to PIB. This will be my first summer boating, so I'd be hesitant making the trip on my own.

If this is your first summer boating and you have a 22' boat. Your trips to PIB will be few and far between.... Not trying to be a jerk,.... Lake Erie can get nasty. It seems to change on a moments notice. I have yet made the trip to PIB and gotten good water both ways. If I got smooth water on the way there, I end up with pretty heavy seas on the way home.... Just how that body of water is. However, if you do make the trip, I would make sure you have a day or two open, in case the wind kicks up and you get stuck at PIB for a day or two....

DanG28 02-03-2014 03:13 PM

I was afraid of that to be honest. Maybe I will save that trip for the future. Thanks for the advice.

It can be done. There is a member here on OSO that makes the trip in a 22' Donzi. I was just speaking from experience. I have done it many times in my Velocity 260 and had smooth travels, but have also had times where we ended up having to stay the night (coming back from Cedar Point) at PIB because the wind had kicked up. This is partly why I stepped up to a Concept 30. While it still isn't the best boat to take on Erie when the wind kicks up, it should be a bit better than the 260 was.......

bigboat28 02-03-2014 05:30 PM

Trailer it to the catawba or marblehead area and boat over, it would be a way shorter trip.

s022mag 02-04-2014 02:00 PM

I use to go over in a 23 Captiva but that was out of Catawba State Park, only about 8 miles to PIB. Sometimes I could hammer sometimes I had to limp it there. If you wanna try it plan mid summer, spring and fall seems to be the shadiest. Also find some points along the way where you can duck off if the weather gets bad. Getting there will probably be the easiest as winds typically come out of the west. Going back will be your issue.

I also boat on LSC and have been for the last 10 years and know my way around pretty good. :boat: Let me know when you guys come up and we can meet and have a good time!!:party-smiley-048: There are several marina's in the area with transit docks and of course Lake St. Clair Metro Park (AKA Metro Beach). for docking.

Last year I went from Boyne straight to PIB for the first weekend of Xmas in July, which was the same weekend as LEOPA's Poker Run, that was to much. This year a week in Boyne will do it for me, and my checking account.:lolhit:

Hopefully we can do the LSC run sometime in early June or August, I know a lot of us that would do the trip are going to Boyne too, need to space these big trips out.

AJ POWERPLAY 03-17-2014 08:46 AM

I'd be in... I'm doing Boyne though so that week is off limits for me, also the 4th is taken up

DoubleThunder 03-17-2014 05:59 PM

Yep, sold back November. Found a 38' Donzi ZX down in Maryland. We are going out to water test it March 30th, if all goes well we will be hauling it home.:evilb:
