Tips for jobbie nooner 1 newbies.
We will be traveling down from the upper peninsula of Michigan to attend jobbie nooner 1 for the first time does anyone have any tips for us? I would like to find a good group of people to raft up with it will just be my wife and I we have have a chaparral Villain IV. I have a slip reserved for Friday night at emerald city where is the best place to launch near there? Is the law enforcement pretty reasonable as far as traveling back from gull island to the marina to get to brownies for the after party ie as long as your not driving like a jackass you should be ok or no. Also do a lot of people camp out on their boats at the island Thursday night or no. We are not newbie boaters just newbies to jobbie nooner.

Law Enforcement wont bother you if you are acting responsible. Too much other chaos happening for them to mess with responsible boaters. I would not raft up to close to the island, you may get stuck in there till the party breaks up. Not sure about people camping on the island but I would pull up into Muscamoot bay and throw anchor if I was to stay the night out there.

Thanks hadleycat. Is jobbie nooner 2 in sept just as big as jobbie nooner 1? What other boating parties are good to attend down there? How is the muscamoot bay raft off or the hardy dam party?
|
Jobbie 2 is not as large as 1 and in my opinion the raft off is more of a mature boater crowd
Haven't been to Jobbie in 10 years (too many amateurs) and not going this year, but I never miss the raft off. |
Thanks

If you care about your boat I wouldnt raft off to close to the island for Jobbie Nooner. I have seen some skippers that were not too good at piloting there boats out there, plus the anonymous drunks that will be jumping from boat to boat. I vacationed last summer in Gladstone. Stayed in the Marina. I love the area. Muscamoot bay is hopping evey weekend. Hope you like techno dance music at 130 decibels |
The most important tip I could possibly give you is. Don't go. We will do a drive by on our way to PIB!

No I shouldn't say that. There's a lot of fun to be had there, just need to be aware of where you anchor or raft off with. There's a lot of respectable boaters that go there but, a ton of non-boaters that become boaters one day a year. Anchor on the south west side a bit away from the madness and walk in every once in a while. Have fun!

Thank you guys your help is very much appreciated

After going a couple times, the only way I would go to Jobbie again....would be as a passenger on somebody else's boat. Its just not worth the hassle to spend a day wading through the pi$$ and Sh*t water just to see some (+)(+) 's |
Villain30, the best place for you to launch would be at the 9 mile launch ramp. It is a good ramp and the concrete is long enough for you. I saw a 43 Scarab launch there once. The ramp pass is $10.00 a day. Here is the link to the St Clair Shores Launch ramp info:
http://mi-stclairshores.civicplus.co...enter/view/518. Good local restaurants on the water are Browine's and Mikes on the water. The Tin Fish is spotty and I have heard of people getting sick from their food. There is also Captain Jacks, but they only have a couple wells. Brownies is having a Jobbie after party and that will be the place to be. Bring plenty of bumpers because you'll have to tie up next to someone. Another good restaurant that is whiten walking distance of Emerald City is Waves. Waves is just across Jefferson Ave from the entrance to the Marine. |
There's also Bumpers Landing, Crews inn, Luna Kia, Gino's surf, Mac Rays, and a few more lol. Good luck going to Brownies after nooner, I wouldn't even attemp that if you like your boat at all. I personally like Bumpers Landing with the new docks and new tiki bar. Stay safe!

heres some info for those dont know what is a jobbie and what is a nooner. years ago a contract designer was called a jobbie, because they were paid by a job shop or contract shop. jobbies usually worked a the big three...
a nooner was when a jobbie split at noon, and got paid for the entire day. the jobbie nooner was started yrs ago by a couple jobbies. lee & lee......... i havent been to any job nooners in some years. but i have been yrs ago, back when they were in goose or fisher bay. |
It's still called Jobbie Nooner because "juiced up douchers and skanks from Ready Ave. trailer park in borrowed runabouts" just doesn't have the same ring to it..... :lolhit:

So here's jobbie nooner 2014 with a controlled fire on Dickinson island in the background, cool pic. I heard it was a ton of fun. The second picture while a great idea is how all the trash of irresponsible jerkoffs that give responsible boaters a bad name gets cleaned. It's embarrassing. What a shame.

Cool pics Joe! While it annoys me that people treat the island like a dump, it warms my heart to see an inmate work crew spending "a day at the beach".
