UP Michigan trip
Born and raised near Detroit. We've never been over the bridge to the UP! Well a trip is planned and we're going finally.
Any recommendations for site-seeing? I'm not taking a boat either. Thanks!! Nick- |
Depends how much time your going to spend and what your interested in. tahquamenon falls, pictured rocks, are worth seeing. sault ste marie and the locks are neat. Drummond/Detour area is nice. To the west Copper Harbor, Pocupine Mountains, Lake of the Clouds. Marquette is a neat town. Lots of nice scenery, rivers, waterfalls along the shorelines.

If you want to do some sightseeing, I'd probably go to Munising one day and do a Pictured Rock boat tour or at the very least drive H-58 between Munising and Grand Marais and stop at the different sites along the way. I would probably go to Tahquamenon Falls and the Shipwreck Museum (if you like that kind of thing) another day. If you have kids along, Oswald Bear Ranch near Newberry might be fun on the Falls day.

Chamberlains in Curtis for dinner if you want to go out, neat old place and good food.

And when you go through L'Anse, stop at the Hilltop restaurant and get some of their kick butt sweet rolls.

Big Springs just west of Manistique at Palms Book State Park is kind of cool if you get bored... So are the other places mentioned earlier... lake in the clouds, tahquamenon falls, pictured rocks.
