Pelee Island.
Thinking of cruising over to Pelee from Pt. Dover. Wondering if there is much to do, or a recommendation on a marina. Has anyone done this trip, was wondering about how long a trip it is. Thanks for any help. Peter.

I know this is an older thread but thought you may find this helpful for next year. Before the big security crackdown, I used to frequent Pelee several times a year. The island has a pretty laid back vibe to it. Your optons are limited, but it is still a cool place to visit. Realistically there are two places to dock. Scudder marine on the north side of the island, and West Dock in the middle of the west shore. Your best best is Scudder marina, a very well protected harbor with newer docks, shorepower, showers, etc. They usually do not require reservations, VHF channel 68. There is a resturant/bar or two within walking distance of the marina.

Another option is West Dock. The only place to tie up is againt this giant concrete pier that the ferry docks at. Bring plenty of finders. If the water is calm it's not a big deal, but if its choppy it might be an issue as there is no protection from open water. There is a cool bar across the street and a few mom and pop shops to visit. The majority of the island is farm land so most points of interest are located near the docks. There is a cab service and bike rental on the island. There are also plenty of bed and breakfast / cottages on the island.
The main issue coming from Port Dover is navigating the Pelee passage. Assuming you're not in a cargo ship, you should be ok. But do make note of the shoals and reefs between pelee and the mainland. There are two light houses, Pelee passage and Southeast shoal light, that provide a safe passage, as well as several channel markers. I've attached a copy of the chart showing the shoals and markers, as well as scudder and West Dock marked on the Island.
