Default Final Run

Just put the boat away for the winter. And that sucks.

But we had a great final weekend of boating. We ran from Elk Rapids to Charlevoix where we met two great friends. Boated together to Boyne City for dinner at Red Mesa. Then back to Charlevoix at dusk to drop the friends off at their boat.

We then made a starlight run back to ER, leaving Charlevoix as the moon set and cruising the calm waters of Grand Traverse Bay with Mark Knopfler's guitar on the CD player and shooting stars overhead.

What a great final memory of the season to hold onto to get us through til next year.

I pray you all have similar final runs.

We went out on Saturday September 23 for a boat ride, left Lakeview Park Marina in Windsor and went for a cruise down the Detroit River. While going down the Detroit River we seen a Skater with outboards coming down from Lake St. Clair, it looked like one of Ron Szolack's, Flight Club Skater's that I have seen at Skater Fest before. We cruised down the river and noticed the Skater was coming back around Zug Island, we continued and went around Boblo Island and stopped for something to eat in Lake Erie. We continued back up the Detroit River and back to Windsor, what a great day it was for a Fall Run, water was calm and weather was perfect, will be winterize the boat this weekend.

My winterizing now consists of making sure my motors are trimmed all the way down, dropping some stabil and ethanol treatment in the tank and flipping the switches to off on the batteries. I love Outboards and indoor storage!! I will be boating until the 15th at which point the storage facility will no longer drop my boat in the water......

I think today is the last run for me with the cigarette. I have been making a list of odds and ends that need to be fixed. I'll probably hold out on the Mach 1 till they pull the Ramps at the state park lol. Unless it gets real cold fast.

Watching a Skater do what it does best is always a thrill. A Skater is my lottery boat, but mine would have to have Ilmors to get that sound that only comes from high-revving big blocks!

As for winterizing, I feel your pain!

We store indoors in a heated barn with ample backup power so our winterizing is much easier to do, but still painful since it puts an end to the summer of boating.

After spending most of last week on the West Bay enjoying the best week of weather this year it's over for us. The last run was from the slip to the ramp in the rain and a haul home. Some winterizing and a long winter sleep in a building at the fairgrounds.

Iceboat season is next, less expensive and winter fun.

Cool

Hey John, just read the thread. Us too! We did a couple of nice runs on Torch Lake and then relaxed at the sandbar last weekend. Although most people got in the water, lol, it was for a shorter time. The water temp has already dropped quite a bit. The marina will pull the boat this week. Then I will take it down state to heated storage, shined up and ready to go for next year.
