Moving to the Milwaukee Area
So, we are going to the pull the trigger and move to the Milwaukee area. I've recently accepted a position with a new company so this has me moving. The most important thing is to see how the boating is, who are the boaters from the area and where the hang out spots are. I will also need an engine machine shop to do some machine work if anyone can recomend one.

There is a good machine shop in Waukegon. Its called ATECO. They are boat friendly.

Contact member Jbonz. He is west of Milwaukee but should be able to help you out some

I'm sure we could put together a crew to bring that BT around the mitten for you!

I'm about 3 hours north of Milwaukee, I know not really what you are looking for but file it in the "I want to try someplace new for the long weekend" file, if you decide to haul that thing north I would be more than happy to show you around Door County, we boat on the bay of Green Bay and go out as often as the weather will allow. Plenty of places to eat or hang out lots of shopping for the wife... as if boating didn't cost enough, LOL.

Jason,
Welcome to Wisconsin. You know this means you no longer can be a Lions fan and will be fitted with a Cheese Head as soon as you cross the boarder. Your in luck moving here. Wisconsin has a huge racing base. Drag racing, Late Models and of course Road America all have created a need for engine building. Many great builders around here that know Marine too. Milwaukee Shops that I've used or ground their cranks for- http://www.cs-performance.com/ Mell the owner is really easy to work with. borchardt speed automotive - Never used them for my projects but they build everything from Nitro to weekend racers NVR - Known for precision but was pricey and clicky to certain racers. What work do you need done? Look forward to seeing that beast here. Andy |
Hi guys, thanks for all the info. We are making a visit this weekend to look at a few houses with our realtor. We are trying to find a house with a barn for the toys! Which we are finding a bit impossible for the wife and I to agree on what we want.
Look forward to coming to the area and meeting some cheese head boaters! P.S. I've been a Lions fan through all the losing seasons now that they are winning it is going to be hard to switch. As for the engine build and machine work check out the link below on my thread. I had some issues with a head yet again so we are going in different route with a new cylinder head combo. |

Thanks "Old Navy"... We have moved from our old shop in Waukegan to a new facility in Ingleside, IL, but we are still the same "boater friendly" shop. We now have a 10,000 sq ft full service machine shop that includes a service center with a certified Mercury Race Technician. We are boaters ourselves and would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your engine needs. Check us out at Ateco Engine and Dyno Shop on facebook or our web page at www.atecoengines.com. We still have the same phone number as before. We are also advertisers on OSO. Stop by or give us a call. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Here's the link to Jason's Badazzz boat build! Going to miss you over here but excited to come visit you in Milwaukee. Kristy and I enjoyed living there for a few years and we know you will also.

I am all to used of being boarded by the CG, thev've been harmless in my experience. It seems it is typically anytime you boat in or out of a river. Its the police or sherrif I've grown to worry about when it comes to noise.

So house hunting was a bust. We were looking in the Waukesha, Muskego and Franklin areas. We will continue to look but I was wondering if my fellow OSO'ers can help me out in the mean time. I am looking to rent or lease a building/shop/warehouse for the boat and all my garage type stuff so I can continue to work on it to get it ready for the season. If anyone has any leads let me know. It has to be a minimum depth of 50 feet. I will consider anything in teh area.
Thanks for the help, Jason |
Jason,
My uncle has a large warehouse in Kenosha WI with some space available I believe. Its a bit south east of the areas you are looking, but not too far. If that's something you may be interested in, I can put you in touch with him. Its very close to Kenosha Harbor. Let me know. Rob |

Jason,
What are your size needs for everything? Heated? Call me if you prefer 847 418 1467 |
Hi Jason,
I live in Muskego and if you have any questions about the area just let me know. Best of luck with the move. One of my good friends runs a 46 BT down the Milwaukee River all the time; maybe we will run into you next year. Franklin's taxes are very high--I'd avoid it if at all possible. Bryan |
Jason
did you find anything? I may have a rental in Geneva if interested pm me |
We are getting settled here in Wisconsin, so far so good. We ended up getting a 3 month lease while we look for homes. The ordinances are pretty restrictive within 20-25miles of Waukesha, WI. I can not find any areas that allow over 1200 square foot accesory stuctures, this is a problem since I am looking for 2500+ square feet. Keep in mind we are looking to stay in Waukesha County.
Thanks for all the advice. |
Take the LIONS with you!

I lived in Pewaukee for about a year. You would probably have better luck with the outbuilding thing in a smaller town like Pewaukee or maybe even Sussex.(I think it is in Waukesha County). As far as building there are a couple bigger ones with a flexible owner across 94 from the home depot on Bluemound. He also owns the ones next to Home Depot. Don't know if your still looking but hope that helps.

Hey Jason,
Welcome to the land of Cheese, Beer, and Brauts! A little late to the thread but I am not much of any help as I too am a transplant. Good luck on the home search. Hope to see that BT out on the river this summer... Jr. |

HeHe ..that's where I live....Pewaukee / Sussex used to be big lots with unlimited lot use however that changed a few years ago with tighter lot restrictions. Might need to look North of Waukesha Cty to get the ability to build a shed that size. Welcome to WI :)
Anyway I figured he could go out of town to find a lot I found a old farm for sale that was pretty close to the Wal Mart in Pewaukee and it had some buildings on it. |
No, the Apache guy I think is in Brookfield. Lived in the Lake Country area my whole life....nice area, schools etc.

Sussex is going to be your best bet if you're looking to build a building. If you want to stay in Waukesha county. I live in Richfield (Washington county) and they are way more laid back on building out buildings. There is actually a couple properties for sale down the road from us. As far as boating goes, we very seldom go on Michigan. Lake Winnebago and the Wolf river is way more fun than the big lake. Lots more to do, the water is warmer and lots of sand bars. You can PM me if you have any questions. Wish I could help with storage, but everything I have is full. Too much stuff!

I did 2 circ-water pumps on the lake while I was there. Right on the lake out front. |
I just moved to Wisconsin from MI as well. We have a place on Lake Butte des morts. I have. Been told that this area is awesome for boating. I'm currently looking at getting a 28FT pantera to enjoy on the lake.
