I would prefer paper to keep on the boat, but I guess they will only be good for so many years as they always update. I'm wondering if digital copies would be better, where it maybe updates somehow? Not really sure

I have the navionics on my phone and ipad. Let me tell you it is excellent. I used it on my ipad last year in the Bahamas when we rented a boat for a few days. It's just like a chart plotter. I was in the coast guard and our small boats had pretty good systems on them and the navionics is right up there with what we used. Actually, the navionics is easier to use then what the CG has. I think it was around $50 for the ipad. I setup all of my routes prior to hitting the water in the Bahamas and it worked great.

The first time I went to PIB I got a chart of Catawba and the islands from West marine, big poster. I think they have booklets for parts of the lake, I would just get a nice Garmin with them built in already, unless you like to stare at them at home like i do.
