There has never been one time with any of my boats that the water kept me from going I used to take my 24 out in 6 to 8 footers just to get to that stupid island with the Cig and my 32 Baja I never thought twice about it no matter what the water was

The scariest time was 6 to 8 footers in the first week of May with water 40° and I had a storm coming in and dark was close, I had a wire short out and I lost one of my engines and I could not get the hatch open to see where the smoke was coming from somehow I figured out there was a shorted wire I got everything working and I got to land as fast as possible. That was probably the only time I have ever been afraid of big water because I knew if there was a fire and I had to jump in I only had a few minutes to live

I'm glad they found the three stranded fisherman OK. Two duck hunters just died on Lake St. Clair. These waters are not safe this time of year.

What size boats? I feel pretty safe in a 35-38ft offshore boat in big water, not a 18-24 ft duck or fishing boat... Huge difference

Hopefully find something different to do next summer other than the bay weekend.

Tim, I made it to Kelly's two and a half times, lol, you were only there for the half time, so get your stuff fixed.

Very true. However Erie can even get dangerous for a boat in that size range too. I wouldn't venture too far out!

Your 2 pics sum it up for our trip. Front of clothes soaked and that last foot of bow stopped us from plugging the nose. Next day a lot of smaller boats came in. I think daylight makes a big difference.

I totally get about boating early in the season, can't play around with just above freezing temps.
