Personally I'd look for one with more power, the hull doesn't really start to work until 65 MPH. So I'd look for one that can cruise at 65 or above loaded with people and fuel.

With the 496HO it was not fast ,depending on running into the wind or not between 67-69 mph ,like Racingjason said ,the hull is still dragging, and not running free on its sponsons at those speeds ,mine start free up at 75 mph now

so are you saying if he want a cat but most of the time he is running 25 to 30 pulling kids on tube or sking that a cat is not the way to go

I can stay on plane at those speeds (25 mph) in smooth water, put thats slowing down after getting on plane. My boat rolls over onto plane and settles down atbout 40 mph. For putting around 25 -30 mph and a 65 mph top speed a HTM is probably not the best hull. If you want a small fast cat that goes 100 plus, it's worth considering.
