Real Quality of HTM SR 24's
 

I am currently looking at a 1998 & 2000 SR 24 to purchase. My local Marine/Boating performance guy says to stay away from these things like the plague. Says they are very dangerous, of poor quality, and ride like a bathtub. Opinions/Comments from owners greatly appreciated!

I have a very nice 1999 for sale here on oso. I think the boats quality is very nice I have owned mine for 8 hears now and the fit and finish on everything is nice. No stress cracks in it any place. and I drive mine at 100mps with no problems it has went 124mph and the boat did not do anythig bad it felt like it was on rails.

I have a 2000 for 6 years now and I love the boat. I have no complaints on the quality or its safety. In a 1 to 2 foot chop it rides very good imo but when it gets rougher than that you have to take it easy. What the boat does not like is when the rollers are to close together and the boat doesnt clear the next wave and pounds in to it. long lazy rollers are a blast to launch off of. For me when it gets rougher than 2 footers I dont want to be out there anyways. Where do you do most of your boating?

Great boats! They handle great and have no problems with speed not to mention they are the only 24' cat that has a useable cuddy. The 1999 and up have some nice features that the early ones didn't.

tbanzer - I boat mostly on the Tickfaw River. It dumps into Lake Maurepas, then through a pass into Lake Ponchartrain. The problem is Maurepas is very shallow. When we get those late afternoon thunderstorms that Louisiana is famous for, the waves get 3 feet with a little white cap. Unfortunately, the wave are very tight & almost always at a crosswind to get back into the river. Other days the lake is like glass - no chop at all. I am hoping to get enough speed to stay on top of the waves and keep skipping? Just wondering about safety, porpoising, etc. I like to drive standing up in the bolster, aka the HTM and it's awesome cockpit, especially for a 24'.

The boat has no porpous at any speed. Three footers is pushing it unless you can stay on top and bridge them at speed. A nice 1 foot wind chop is what my boat likes the best.

I have a 2002 HTM SR24 with over 1,000 HP Most of them have great build quality, handle excellent for a cat, and are as safe as any cat in the same size range with equal power. I have had mine 129 MPH and am comfortable and confident of my boats safety and performance.

how are they on a lake where there is a lot of boat wash

Depends how big the other boats are, at Desert Storm where there are 40-50 foot boats going 180 MPH spinning #6 props and the water is all torn up in both directions it can be a bumpy ride. If you are in an area with similar sized boats its not bad at all, last weekend at monster bash I cruised to all the card stops between 75-85 mph very comfortably.

Jason ,can you give me the center propshaft height from your boat ?

Mine is exactly 1 inch under the lowest part of the sponsons with the drive level .

I ran the Bmax yesterday with 7 psi boost at 93 mph with a 26 pitch Bravo 1 prop ,and 1,30 ratio

Now the boat feels great ,thoug it need a lot positive trim to get the bow up ,once its up it feels very stable and true .
