I think the Aqua toys store is still sitting on one for 3 years now.IMP nice cruzer. They started putting diesels in them.

I would get the 50. Just think get it with 500efis and supercharge them and have a easy 100mph 50 footer. :D

I was just at Aqua its still there. I recall seeing that boat
with the matching horse few years ago for$750,000.
It is looking a little neglected now.

Rob- I agree with you guys. Doesn't that boat at Aqua have the Torque V-12's? The original owner of my boat was Mark Rueckwald who had a 50 Hustler with triple Sterlings/#6's. I recall that the motors were putting out 1050hp and it went an honest 120mph. The only people that weren't impressed with it were the people trying to sleep that lived above the marina when he brought it in late at night. Rob, I think I sent you pics of the motors. You might have them in your archives. At the time, the boat was called Cosmic Voyager.

Re: 444 Huntress

I knew you found them in your Cray Computer. How did I know? Our lights dimmed! There's a few bucks in the back of that Hustler. At the time those pics were taken, the boat had not been painted. As for the V-12's.I haven't heard too much since Sterling bought the rights to them. Maybe Ritchie and JC have some info when you see them at PRI. Not a lot of folks know that the Ol drag racer himself, Dick Maskin was one of the designers of that V-12 motor. It was good talking to ya last night. Have a good trip to Orlando. I checked out the PRI video. Very impressive. Give me a call when y'all get back. Lou

I forgot to answer your question. When Color Me Bad was built, it was one of only a couple of boats built with the Torques. Who knows what's in it now.At least that's what my feeble memory tells me. Maybe Caveman can post some photos of his "project" as it moves along???Lou

Correction. I just checked my files. Those were 1350 Sterlings in the 50 Hustler.

I remember Marks boat from the Abay poker runs. That thing sounded nice. I heard he got rid of it cuz he had it out in 7+ footers and said he didnt feel safe. What would you expect in big water like that.
does Color Us GOne still have the v-12's?? i guess it ran 113 or so w/ them.
Remember, mike pandofeli's(sp), the former co-owner of Hustler, 50' called Nasty Girl? It had trip Cobra 12's.. Sweet a$$ paint..
Also, the new Black Cloud 444 is for sale w/ ASD8's and big power, 1400's i think.. That'd be the 44 to buy if someone wanted one.

Re: 444 Huntress

Color me gone still has the v12s. I got to admit I really
wasnt impressed with it. Neglected maybe.
Some of the peaces though that did cry out at Aqua
was the 50 foot Jaguar with Fixed Arnesons and
a center rudder with 4 1200hp,s.
The 50 foot all red turbine powered nortech also looked good
on the trailer.

Really.... I looked at these boats I could not help but wonder
how many parts from the boat I was buying found its
way on these boats.

May it be turbines and Arnesons or pistons and sixes I hope to have some progress in the next few months :drink:

I would think the 50 Hustler is a faster hull than the 444, I was thinking the 444 was more of a luxury type cabin type boat.

For example a 50 with trip 500efi I think does about 80-82? and I wonder what the 444 with the same power would do>?????

What do you all think??

Callen does own the right to the v12 motors. And I think the 44 with triple 525's would be in the low 90's. The 1st 2, 444's didnt have the optimal set ups in them. Im building one right now with staggered Eikert 850's w/ number 6's. Itll be at the Miami show and its gonna be the boat to see!!

Rob, Nashville Cats (Bruce) was the original owner of Color us gone boat. That thing was nothing but problems....hull floated over to one side.....was not balanced properly......you never knew which way it was going to go when you came off pad at 100.....friggin deathtrap. The torques mad an azzload of power though.

ThoroughHustler I have never seen one in person How does it compare to the 388 and how close is it to the 50??

I noticed the 444 doesent have a notched transom.I wonder what the bottom looks like compared to my 388?

Re: 444 Huntress

Rob-Sorry I'm late getting back to you (you're probably in all kinds of trouble at PRI right now). It looks like you and Thorough are correct that Callen has the rights to the Torques. I did a search here and this last spring, Sterling and Callen were supposedly working together on them, There was an article on Sterling in one of the magazines that went into quite a bit of detail on how they were trying to refine the design, make it reliable and to get some of the cost out.As I recall,I thought that they said that they had the tooling. Certainly not a priority, but I'll see if I can find it. Obviously last spring was a long time ago and Callen may be doing everything now.For what it's worth...

Lmarth 12-01-2005 07:19 PM

Re: 444 Huntress

OK, the October,2004 issue of Powerboat says that Dave Callan bought the rights to the Torque V-12 and had entered into a 'cooperative venture' with Sterling. At the time, Sterling didn't have a price but was taking orders for the motors. Their expectation was that a 1200hp version would go 200 hours before requiring rebuilding. The idea was to take weight out of the motor, make the parts easier to make as well as cheaper. I suspect that this has changed. Maybe someone has the latest status on this.

Rob :drink:

Traded the 444 in on the Talon "Follow the Sun" boat. There were some bugs on the motors...but really did not run it long enough to find out......30 or 40 hours. They were stong, great drivability and sounded like 2 p51 mustangs rolling down the lake. That hull was a different story....they might as well mount it on a pole out front of the aqua toy store. I actually thought they destroyed the molds for liability reasons. One other guy got one and took it back....same issues and joe worked a deal on another boat I believe.

The shott brothers have a Skater in the works?? could be.. i really dont know.. i did hear they couldnt get their 444 to handle well for nothing.. the 388 was a rocket.. a guy up this way owns it now w/ even more power..

id think the 444 is a faster hull than the 50. shorter, sleeker, and has to be lighter.. also, i doubt hustler would release it if it was a puke..

I would like to ask what changes did they make to the hull ?? and why did they make those changes?? Who was the designed the 444 hull, and why did the first 2 and only 2 (well only 2 ever finished the third being a different story) run so horribly???

ThoroughHustler 12-12-2005 07:46 PM

Re: 444 Huntress

Hustler Desinged the 444 Hull. Its not what they did to the Hull it was the balance of the boat, the placement of the motors etc. and the X Dimensions that were changed technology is changing and knowlege is always growing .The reason that 1st two didnt work are differnt for each boat... One of them will probably run just fine if it was propped right. The Second didnt work at all because the owners rigged it them selves and it was just a mess..... I dont know about the third one . I am 99% sure that the boat I am building for the Miami Show will run just fine. Alot of money is being invested into the boat by my company....we wouldnt purchase the boat if it wasnt up to the ride quality that everyone has come to exspect from Hustler. If any one has any questions about the boat or is interested in any new or used Hustler please call me any time at 631-445-0745!

Re: 444 Huntress

First of all I think the boat looks great, like all Hustlers. From what I have seen and been told, Balance, balance, and balance. From batteries, generators, to seating, to dashboard, to head, to the galley needs to be all in various area's to distribute weight properly, not all on one side, so the boat sits in the water properly when docked. This model for Hustler could have been a great success, it fits between the 38 and 50, both awesome machines, but very little sales, for various reasons. Im sure this has been straightened out, great looking boat. Looking forward to checking it out. Good luck. Jeff
