New to me 388

What props are you running with 500 efi,s. 30 bravo? How does a hydromotive 4 blade work? Do they pick up any speed spinning the props in instead of out?

I don't have 500's in mine so I can't say prop size for yours, but I would guess a 30 or 32 4 blade. I prefer running a 5 blade ( I am running a 5 blade 32 with a 1.34 imco scx drive). I tried briefly turning the props in and it definitely gave more stern lift and maybe a little on top end, but the control around the docks wasn't good enough to make up for the little performance. I am currently turning them out for better dock manners. Sorry I couldn't help more.

315duramax 07-24-2015 04:58 PM

Which 388 did you buy

Velocity Tom 07-25-2015 07:50 AM

I bought the red and blue one from Nc. 2000 500 efis.

Can I get some basic info start. Year, motors and price? Is it a Poker run? as im looking for a full cabin. At this point in the season for me it would have to be a decent deal. Thanks-Joe

EvilTwin 08-24-2015 08:00 AM

2000 with 500efi's with Vortec S/C's (700's), new IMCO SCX drives, full cabin (bed, bathroom, sink) which I have never used the toilet or sink. Aluminum trailer. Beautiful shape. It sits inside my garage whenever not being used. Just had a survey done 2 months ago and everything came back perfect. $90k. Let me know if you would be interested in more info.

I really only wanted to spend up to 70k If you have room to move shoot me a email [email protected] and I would probably come look at it.

EvilTwin 08-24-2015 11:27 AM

Sorry, that won't be possible. Good luck in your search. You will love the Slingshot.

Ok Thanks. Everything I hear from the owners of the slingshots they love them. If you decide you can get into the 70's let me know and I will consider.

Get one you won't be disappointed!

Drew555 08-24-2015 09:53 PM

Beg borrow and steal the other $20000.00 it's worth it. I know a guy who just traded his in for a new rocket and hustler gave him almost a 100k for it. Was the same year I think. Maybe a year younger. It had close to 500hrs. Awesome boat

EvilTwin 08-24-2015 10:38 PM

Yes they are. Lol

I just had my 388 surveyed for insurance and they put it at $85 k. I wouldn't sell it for less you cant find one anywhere. I looked at one for 65k and it was destroyed. The used boat market is getting thin on boats with 500 efi,s and 525,s for under 100k. Unless its a fountain or baja but they made way more boats.

EvilTwin 08-25-2015 06:38 PM

When mine was done this summer it was appraised at $110k (with trailer). Very few nice 388's out there available.

bulletbob 08-25-2015 08:03 PM

Stunning!!

EvilTwin 08-25-2015 08:13 PM

Thank you. It is set up properly from the motor package to the drives.

82predictor 08-25-2015 08:39 PM

Evils boat is a deal with the equipment it has. If you are going to spend 70-75 on a bravo boat with 500's. spend the extra 15k and get scx drives and a 100mph boat. Then you don't have to worry about wiping out bravos. I looked for a couple years before we bought ours, i wanted to spend the same as you but ended up spending more. All the boats that were 60-70k were junk or needed work. I've had 3 great seasons so far with no major issues. Glad I spent the extra money and got a clean and well maintained boat instead of trying to save 15k and working on it constantly and not boating.

Try to get one with arnesons or scx's if you can, that is the only thing that I regret is the drives (although so far they have been reliable).

There is a bravo boat up at aquamania in the thousand islands that has rebuilt 500's. I can vouch it runs 85 he ran next to us at abay poker run for a few miles.

EvilTwin 08-26-2015 09:02 AM

Once I broke an XR I had a decision to make and everyone I talked to said it would be wise to put the SCX's on as the Bravos will not hold up on this boat. So I did. Expensive but so far definitely the right decision. The motor pic (taken the day I brought it home) is before the SCX's were put on as you can see the old drive reservoirs and they were not detailed. lol

I boat with EvilTwin and see the boat on a regular basis, you will not find a nicer or CLEANER 388 for this kind of money. The boat is immaculate and very well taken care of, some may say he's a little OCD, lol. The bathroom hasn't even been used, I'm sure the toilet still has the original plastic from the factory on it.

EvilTwin 08-26-2015 03:46 PM

Yeah, I was told if you remove that piece of plastic, the boat loses half its value...... That isn't true? lol

Not positive I want to sell it (I go back and forth everyday), but I kind of want to try something different. I will use it this weekend and probably decide to keep it (at which time I could change my mind again in another week). :)

What do you think of the ride of the Slingshot compared to the Velocity?

mwdill 08-27-2015 07:50 PM

500 efi's I use 30 bravo's or 28 5 blade Herings which I use all the time , boat has the ITS

You have xr drives or bravo1. Reason I ask is I was thinking of five blades for my fountain pushing 600 hp with bravo. Just worried I'm going to tear sh it up.

How do you like the herings?

Strip Poker 388 08-29-2015 03:50 PM

Fyi, The 28 Herrings dropped my rpm over the stock Bravo one 30's, I haven't been able to run it all the way out yet, they do accelerate a good bit more, Not much diff in cruz speed, but im going to run between 32.3400rpm no mater what the speed is,Im sure they are harder on my drives, but prob not on boat w/ 600hp or less, so far Im hot happy with them, atleast they look good.:D

I need to test the Maximums 28 labbed for a comparison,or some merc labbed 32 4 blades

I ran a set of stock 32's ,they did seem to lug the boat down some, lost around 300rpm,but still ran a 102 on a good day, so labbed 32 would prob work better that my stock 30's. Im also not really looking for that 1 extra mph and doing much testing now days, just riding.

I also am running a 1.30 gear ratio

Rob
