Make sure you look into insuring the EXACT bike you are looking to buy. Many, many, many bikes are out there, and some are easily recognized by the insurance companies, and some are not, especially home builts. They may be registered as an XL1200, and worth $35,000, but only insurable for $15,000.

Try to find one that is listed under Kelly Blue Book. This will help with financing and insurability. Some of the bigger named chopper companies have finance programs in house and/or with partners.

I want to buy used and let somebody else take the hit. Looking in the 03 to 05 range. I am planning on sticking to a larger company also or just more well known company than the side shops. Just for the purpose of what you described.
