I have been quoted a couple different HP policies and in the fine print most of them have a "No Racing" exclusion written in.
I understand why, it makes sense. My question is does racing the boat cancel your policy or does it mean that you are not covered for anything that happens during a race?
If an owner used the boat as his weekend lake boat for poker runs and pleasure, but signed up for a race like the Bimini Challenge, will it cancel their policy or just exclude any coverage during the race?
I wouldn't want to get dropped (again) or denied coverage later on if there was an accident and they found out the boat had been in a race..

To answer your first question, racing doesn't cancel your policy. But your policy would not cover losses that occurred during or as a result of racing. Racing is defined as any speed/time based event. Poker runs are not considered races except by ACE Insurance Company.
Bimini would be excluded. There are separate policies available to cover your boat during events like this. We sell them and they typically cost $500 for the weekend.

Thank you for your quick response Stacy! I also submitted a quote request via your website now that my boat is finished and ready for the water. Thanks for your help!

If you "race" your friend's boat... technically you were not in a race or speed contest, but I'm sure someone could "try" to argue the contrary.
