Default Boat interior - When is it covered for replacement?

Is anyone aware of when your boat interior would be covered by your insurance for replacement? I cant seem to get a direct answer from my insurer.

Nothing at this time. Just curious if things such as sun damage and things like that are covered. Or just like vandalism and fire etc.

Don't think they pay for normal wear items. If your agent can't give you an answer, time for a new one.

Normal wear is never covered on anything.

If the interior damaged to a accident or unforeseen event then it is most likely covered. Not sure who your carrier is, of course you would have your deductible to consider as well. No coverage from ageing, sun damage, or something that could have likely been avoided.

A friend had his covered under manufacturer warranty, when it was afflicted by a 'pink mold' on an almost new boat.
A few boats that had first edition 'silver carbon fiber' vinyl were covered/partially covered, by the manufacturer of said vinyl when the color started drastically running and fading.

Another friend has his boat impounded for a time being after an accident that was not his fault. (This was while the investigation was being done by the marine police.)
They stored the boat bow down, and cabin filled with water; allowing mold to destroy it.
Insurance covered the new interior.

I would expect that some type of fire or comprehensive damage should cover a new interior.

Did you have a loss, that you are not able to get your insurer to cover?

A guy on my dock a couple slips away had the entire interior replaced due to raccoons getting in while put away for winter storage. They are not such cute critters once you see what damage they can do!

I hate to say this but it's never covered for "replacement cost" unless the interior is damaged the same year that the boat is mfg. Otherwise it's always going to be a depreciated value payout based on the useful life of the upholstery determined by your carriers claims department. Also, upholstery is treated differently than most parts and it will always depend on the cause of loss. Example for you:

Sun damage, kid damage (wear and tear items) - not covered

Boat is being stored. Liquids from another boat stored above it get into your boat. Or a tree falls on your boat and damages the upholstery - then it is covered in accordance with the terms of your policy.

Remember that when it comes to coverage on an insurance policy it always comes back to the originating cause of loss, not the end result.
