Yes, unfortunately the industry has been seeing increases in cost on most insurance products nationwide. We have multiple outlets that offer Umbrella Liability protection and would be happy to offer a comparison to what your renewal came in at. Let me know if you have any interest I will be happy to check into this for you.

I've heard of this type of policy just never investigated it. What would be a real life example where this would be necessary?

Get in an accident with a semi, school bus, these million $ boats, cause injuries etc. Very likely if you are the cause you will exhaust the liability limits you have in the vehicle you are driving, whether a boat or a car. You see stories on here all the time of crazy things that happen, like putting your NT into the side of a house at LOTO! PLUP (Personal Liability Umbrella Policies) merely provide an addition level of liability coverage you cause beyond what limits you are carrying on your other insured entities.

Cause a wreck that totals an auto transporter that has seven $100K AMG Mercedes also onboard and totaled. Now your looking at a $1.2 million liability.
Or, sink your boat that causes a fuel and oil slick that the EPA has to do a cleanup of which goodness only knows how that expense that would be.

...your $300K vehicle liability policy is going to tap out pretty quick.

The PLUP will kick in and cover you when that happens.

I just checked. I pay $543 a year for $3M in PLUP coverage with State Farm.

I paid it for now. After this coming Spring, I will be getting new quotes on all my policies. I swear, there has to be a better way to insure yourself. I mean, I have 7 liability policies, WTF !?
