Default Insurance in 2026

I noticed its getting harder and harder to get insurance for boats in general these past few years. My boat a 1990 Cigarette Cafe Racer. Only tops out at around 70 MPH. NA 454s. You guys have any advise, input, companies? Boat is currently insured thru AHOY boat insurance, They are dropping the boat policy in a month or two, due to its age. They charged me around $1400ish for this last year. Which was a middle of a road policy with them. Anyone else have any experience with these older boats with insurance?

Call Wozencraft Insurance, they are on this site. I have used them to insure two Sunsation 32's SSR's and they now insure our Sunsation Center Console.

Hello, we would love to help you with your Cigarette insurance.

It has been the longstanding requirement of Ins. Cos. to require a recent survey submitted and approved by underwriting on any vessel over 10 years old. Additionally, most Ins. Cos. require the surveyor be accredited with either NAMS or SAMS.

[Disclaimer - Wozencraft confirms there are many competent marine surveyors not accredited with either NAMS or SAMS.]

Maybe drop the insurance and throw the insurance money towards waking up those 454s, just a thought.

What would you do for the cost of insurance to wake up some 454s?

Very minimum you better have a LARGE liability policy. When you think that a simple tritoon on the water can be $60-150,000 and most multi engine center consoles are in the multiple $100's of thousands upwards to a $1M+. That is being foolish and can literally break the bank if you mess up and cause an accident. Just my .02.
