looking good...it's hard to tell what color that boat really is. Some pics it looks yellow others it looks light green! Either way it looks good. What are you doing with the seats? I was thinking of getting a couple pieces of that mitigator material to put in the bottoms of mine.....anybody ever sat on that stuff?

TeamSaris 12-24-2009 06:47 PM

Lime-sickle green in person :drink:
The seats are staying, they will great for racing...hold ya in good :drink: I still remeber my first race...(dads 100 sumthing) this summer...I was sore as hell after it...my 52 year old father was just fine...all about the seats bro lol

Johnny ,
Dam , glad to see the motivation getting that ***** ready for next year . I couldnt have sold the boat to a better team .
Looking forward to watching you guys run her next year !!!

By the way , after running 2 mag 27s , and 2 Pantera 28s , this boat by far is the best in the rough , fastest with least hp, and well balanced 27 i ever drove and raced .

Jmemoli 12-31-2009 08:41 AM

As far as speeds , this boat weighs in at around 4200 lbs wet -
500 EFI ran 81 mph
540 ci /600 hp ran 87 mph (never dynod )

The labbed 4 blade hydro is the best prop to run on this boat -the boat needs a little transom lift to air out the step - too much lift and yes it will walk -

Really depends on what you are doing with the boat - to fly off 4-6 footers at 75 mph , the hydro keeps her flying level with less ballast up front .

I had a 5 blade Hydro and it walked bad, I put on a bravo 1,and it is much better. Did you compare the bravo 1 to the Hydro? Also who did your prop work? With my new motor I will be needing a new prop and if i could benefit from your knowledge that would be appreciated

thanks

Well get used to hearing it, because it seems that everyone who has owned/driven one says the same thing. :coolcowboy:

Johhny,
Hope you and your dad kick some serious #ass#.

The boat ran ok with a 24 B1 stock , ad a 26 B1 stock also .
Randy Schleuss from Typhoon turned me to the hydro 4 blade . Throttle up labbed them - they also turned down the OD by 1/2" . the hydro loosened up the boat a little , with little or no chine walk at top speed - chine walk is loose, loose is fast , nice !
To keep the boats under 75 (which is hard to do ) , we ran 23 or 24 pitch hydros cut down -
I ran one of Randys 27 " Hydros , labbed from TU.
Incredible acceleration from bottom to top, ran 86 to 87 mph at around 5700 as i remember . Randy swears by them -
The Krypto hull is very efficient up top , and you dont need much blade surface to get the speed - te smaller blade surface acts like a higher stall converter also for engines with less torque and high RPM.
The 5 blades give too much transom lift - never used em, never liked em - some boats love them -

Our goal is to make the boat accelorate like a mofo, and run out of steam around 75-77. 575 hp but 65o lbs of torque is the goal

TeamSaris 01-13-2010 02:23 PM

Motor is starting to come together a little bit...still some glass work left to do on the boat...Ill have pics soon

Acceloration is the goal, we only NEEd to run 75 for class 5....although 90 is more fun on the lake:drink:

Don, I would imagine so but check with Jason for anything totally positive lol

I thought you were talking about my 572 being 1/2 done... Sorry
So you are doing a 572 also... think it will run 75... How will you limit the top speed, a rev limiter? will you be running right on the limiter or trying to use the throttle to control speed?
It should get to 75 really fast...

jdub 02-02-2010 06:22 PM

He's going to be spinning a small prop very fast :evilb:

That thing is going to pull like a beast........

TeamSaris 02-02-2010 09:46 PM

Its going to be a fairly long stroke if im correct. Lowish rpm, 5500 or so, probably only around 600 hp....but...he has it pinned down to about 675 ft lbs at around 3800-4000...so when we come out of turn one and stand on it, something happens :drink:. Slowing the boat down will be the hardest part....we broke out plenty last year..but youd be suprised how much power it takes to make a boat go 75 with 20 gallons of ballast, the tabs down and it far from trimmed up...remember...its never, ever calm lol

TeamSaris 02-25-2010 07:47 PM

Making a lot of progress...OceanCity is coming!

TYPHOON 02-27-2010 04:12 PM

I just found this thread!!!! Racing is different then pleasure so with that being said all I know about is racing. After years of running the Kryptonite I have just a little knowledge on what works best in a racing set up. If you want to be competitive in class 5 its about being consistent for 40 miles. Its nice to lead but its better to win. Build your power for reliability!!!! The boat will take more punishment than you can. Put 200 -300lbs in the beak of the boat and try not to use any tabs. Im talkin Ocean City. Keep your X dimension deep aprox -3 bellow the bottom. I have always run a 4 blade hydro. This should keep the boat level with a true 1'-3' chop. Keep the throttle to the dash unless you are sure you are stern out of the water. You may think you are flying but most of the time you are still eating water at the prop. A strong XR drive can take a beating with 600 HP.
I read you guys were chine walking when you trim up. What did you expect? Thats when you get fast and need to drive the boat. Not all boats react the same but in a Kryptonite when its loose and walking jerk the wheel to the left and right like you are driving a dirt car through a turn. You dont see them just holding the wheel. Trust me it will settle the boat down with out lifting. Is it comfortable HELL NO! It scares the **** out of you the first few times. If you are racing you have no choice. Lifting is not an option.
My biggest fear is more people will by Kryptonite's and race them. For some crazy reason they just didnt sell to racers well. YOU WILL NEVER GO WRONG WITH THIS BOAT. I have won 4 World Championships with it and Kirt The owner won 1 World Championship with it. I hope you win one every year you race it as long as its not against me in my Kryptonite. I still have some posters of the boat from 2002 if you guys what one. E-mail me your addresses and I will send.
I love Lake George maybe we can all meet up this summer with our boats.

Philm 02-27-2010 06:30 PM

Nice post. The chine walk is definitely driveable, but with the hydromotive p5 it was damn near uncontrollable. with the Bravo 1 4 blade it is negligible, even at 100+.

Good info about weight in the nose, I never really noticed it being stern heavy when jumping, but when trimmed out and running hard it does tend to stick the bow up every once and awhile, especially if it catches you by suprise.

Let's see some pics of the Typhoon winning races!!

I Never Had A Problem With The P5 ,,You Just Had To Drive It Thru

My Kryptonite has a pretty aggressive X dimension. Lightspeed and I took it out for a test ride in October after JC performance rebuilt the motor up to 620hp. We had a 4 blade bravo 1 32p doubled labbed at the time ( a little over pitched). We had the boat up to 89mph with some to go, not much if any chine walk ( and we were trimmed to the moon ). It's all in the set up.....:drink:

If you go towards the end of this video you can actually see only minor steering tweeking
