Kryptonite Fun Run

i didnt want to take over John's thread, looks like we were. So started this one.

Sounds like we are an easy group to please, that alone will make for a great time whatever we do. Personally I do Seneca all the time. The benefits are plenty of room and very little traffic, patrols or haste. 40 miles of wide open running, in usually rough water (fun for our boats) The negative is not near as much to do. we would want to make some phone calls and see what is going on and plan around an event with a band. If the SPBA does something again this year, it is off the hook, boats from all over the country, race teams, live AC/DC cover band the works.but it is usually right on the edge OOC.
Being I am on Seneca I wouldn't mind a change of venue. What are we thinking Friday night Saturday or. Saturday- Sunday? Also I don't know anyone's family life will it be a Family run? Guys and there gals? just guys or anything goes? I would bring my son he is 8 but is well mannered and loves to run the boat, being I have a marina on the lake he has been in boats from birth. But if I am the only one with a child I will opt for a sitter for him.

jdub 12-29-2009 05:35 PM

Good thread to start Don.......I didn't mind the hijack.

I guess the first thing we should do is pick a location.

1) Seneca seems good to me if we get everything planned as you said.

2) Chesapeake Bay is good because we could put in and bounce around a dozen places with out much planning.

With that said, I (not that it matters) think Chesapeake would be good for our first (hopefully more to come) run because it wouldn't take much to get going. Basically all we would have to do is pick a date and make a reservation here http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/...questid=282055 and we're good to go. Once we see what kind of crowd we get together future venues could be alot easier to plan. Just my thoughts...tell me what ya think

You guys are too funny with the kryptonite support trailer. I will have it all set up with a guy on call. My trailer will be hooked up ready to rescue. I also provide the only tow service on the lake, free for us of course.

DonRoc 12-29-2009 09:46 PM

Seneca is a little bigger than Cayuga, and rougher as there is only 1 place to go to escape the waves if its blowing. Cayuga does not have all the cliffs around it and is shallower. Seneca is 610' deep, 100 yards off shore its 75-125'. But Cayuga being flatter near shore has more places to build therefore a lot more activity and many more bars, restaurants on it. which comes with more marine patrols. The noise is an issue, as with on Seneca.
Don't get me wrong I love Seneca for the freedom to do a little more and not worry about getting into trouble or caught, and there is no speed limit... But for that you don't get much to do, without lots of planning.

Cayuga lake is another option with much more to do, or wait to see what's up with the SPBA and there poker run. I will call the Pres of the SPBA tonight, and see what is going on, he also put together many good runs for his members, he may have some great ideas. I will let you know or get him to post some thoughts here.

This is a deal breaker for me:lolhit:... with my boats' track record so far:party-smiley-004:

Philm 12-29-2009 10:12 PM

yea seriously, free towing is always a good idea. :drink:

Like I said, I am down for anything. You guys set it up and just keep us updated about when we are going to do it and where and I will do my best to be there. If it is during a time that I am working, well then we will have to reschedule. I will be working 2 weeks on 2 weeks off after this trip, so it wont have to be moved very far.

Fun Run, Seneca Lake June 25th-27th

If everyone is up to it lets plan for Seneca Lake June 26th and 27th The SPBA will have a Fun run @ the Showboat Motel that weekend and provide dinner for its members Saturday night the 26th. Membership is $40.00. We can opt out and pay for our own dinner, or go somewhere else for dinner. The fun run is Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26h. But with work schedules maybe we would want to get to the lake early Saturday the 26th and stay over enjoy some time Sunday the 27th and head out Sunday afternoon. depends on if everyone wants to stay over Friday and Saturday or just Saturday.
If we are all in I recommend reserving a room for Friday and Saturday or just Saturday. But should all get together Saturday by noon for sure.
Here are some links The Showboat is where we will plan to spend Saturday night for dinner and a band.
The rainbow is right next door but we need to be respectful of kids and family's, the showboat is where all the boaters and partying will be....

South end of the lake. 15 miles South of Showboat
The Glen Harbor Hotel is very nice but 15 miles down the lake, and no partying, except the local bars in Watkins Glen within walking distance. If you reserve here make sure to ask for a slip or call The Village Marina for a slip (right in front of the hotel). The Anchor inn would have some slips and is on the lake they also have a tiki style open bar on the lake, but about 12 miles down the lake.

http://www.watkinsglenharborhotel.com/

Anchor Inn and Marina
3425 County Road 30
Watkins Glen, NY 14891
607-535-4159
North End 25 miles North of Showboat
http://www.ramada.com/Ramada/control...opertyId=07447 Geneva New York Hotel | Geneva, NY 14456 The Ramada usually has a party on the patio with band on Saturdays. They have a fair size dock, and restaurant.

Let me know where everyone would want to stay, if we want to try to stay together of fend for ourselves Saturday night. If we want to try to stay at the same place I doubt we will be able to get enough places at the Showboat, but would want to try now. Or we can sleep in our boats... if we cant get a place close ie Rainbow or Showboat sleeping on the boats maybe a safer bet. But I would escort anyone down the lake if they wanted to, to one of the hotels the south end would be my preference (then I would just go home for the night) If I escort to the North end I would get a room. If we sleep on the boats I do have a shower at the Marina for the following morning.
Im trying to think of everything, we can plan more as the questions come in.

jdub 12-30-2009 06:46 AM

Sounds like a plan to me. I'll come in late Friday or early Saturday. Not sure if it will be a family (wife&daughter) or guys trip for me yet. Hey Don is there any hotels near your marina? I just assume stay close to where we put in.

DonRoc 12-30-2009 09:09 AM

I am on the South end of the lake, if you want to hotel by boat then the Glen Harbor Hotel is the place, or a few miles from the marina is the Anchor Inn with slips. There are many places if you want to drive (by car or walk) that are a mile or so from the marina. Anywhere in Watkins Glen (witch is on the south end of Seneca Lake).
My Marina is Glen Harbor Marina is on the South end its www.glenharbormarina.com.

jdub 12-30-2009 09:36 AM

So if we stay at the Glen Harbor Hotel we would just leave our boats at your marina?

You could pull your boat out if you wanted to at my marina, but late Saturday after leaving the Showboat I don't think you will want to pull your boat out and walk .5 miles to the hotel. I would think a slip in front of the hotel would be the ticket. But if you want you could pull your boat at my place. I have a security gate around the marina we could leave the boats and trucks there if you wanted.
The best bet is to get a room at the showboat and not have to run the lake @ 2 am or so, or sleep on the boat at the showboat, no driving..... But like I said I always make the ride back to the marina, and would escort you there and help you pull out, anything you need. I would have a few spaces on the gas dock if you wanted to sleep there overnight, and might have a slip or two available. Its hard to tell right now, what will be available but for sure 3 spots @ the gas dock. The only thing is the gas dock needs to be available for business by 10 am the following day.

Don, if we can get slips at the Showboat that would be cool. Do you think there will be enough? How far in advance do we need to reserve them?

The slips are first come first serve that day, but they have a lot of mooring we could raft together and they come out and get you with a pontoon. I would reserve the room ASAP.. they book way in advance of this event.

Seneca Lake is not your normal every day lake. In some states a lake is about the size of a NY pond. The lake runs North/ South for 40 miles. The winds usually blow that way it can get pretty fun...

Then start racing

OL40SVX 01-01-2010 12:04 AM

Personally I would like to go race, but we really have no means to. I think it would be fun but the money and the wear and tear on the gear isnt worth it owning two twin engine boats. I would rather spend the money and go poker running around the country. Others have suggest we go racing and have though about it but nothing ever came of it. I have no doubt that im capable of racing a boat.

Dan and his father can definitely drive. Some people prefer racing, others prefer running casually with their friends. It seems these days pokers are more entertaining than the races anyways:lolhit:. Hope to see you at the run Dan. Happy holidays.

Yeah that is the lake.. the club that puts on the run is having a member party the same day and place we are having our run, I hear the AC/DC cover band that played the last few years may be there again.....I am real good friends with the pres of the club. The run was just a lot of work for the few people who set it up. I bet a lot of guys who came before will show if not more, Membership is only $40.00, not bad even if just for a day of fun and food. Or just come enjoy and pay for your own food and drink...Feel free to join us...

Just to stay due the location... But not the best... If you want something really nice the Glen Harbor Hotel is top notch... But the showboat is where we are hoping to end up, so getting a room there would be convenient, but not the best... I expect the band which I will not know for a while if there are booked, will keep us at the showboat. But I am going home, by 2am I would guess so if you or anyone wants an escort to the South end where the Harbor Hotel is I am going right by it I could even pull your boat out and give you a ride by car if you dont get a slip. .
