After that I rebuilt it at 62 hours due to some shavings on the magnets and put another 50 on last season and have no shavings. Mind you this was 100% ocean running with some looong trips.

What parts did you find going away/producing the shavings when you opened up the drive at 62 hours?
I dont recall, but I took pictures of them and posted them. A shaft was galled and a (I think) pinion gear was starting to put out metal you could see on the gear where it was starting to pit. Gadgets took a look at my parts in the post and I dont think I took them all from teague, but I was lucky I caught it when I did. I just had teague do the whole thing (upper and lower) and I was back on the water in a few days. I didnt make the long marathon ocean runs last season and Im in better shape likely because of it. Found a pict, gear pitting is harder to see than shaft due to bad photo.
The life out of the current drive will dictate a move to an SCX or not. Uncle Dave |
Another great catalina run

Teaching the "little one" how to navigate.
Luau Larrys is always good for a tasty libation and I got a firsthand test of the "sheriff repellant" the visible and actually a pain in the a$$ to get - Coast Guard safety Certification sticker. Boat ran flawlessly. Uncle Dave |

Had a little passenger and near perfect seas Saturday and made a trip to Two Harbors from Marina Del Rey.
With the peanut on board it was easy t keep my hand out of it and a joy to watch him light up at the very occasional burst of speed when I put his hand on the stick and pushed forward. We boated about 75 miles starting with a full tank from Del Rey and used around 23 gallons or got a bit above 3 MPG 3.2 to be exact. Pretty damm impressive and my best mileage run to date- goes to show what you can do if you keep your hand out of it. Uncle Dave |
