The only other single V setup I really know about is the OL 29 with the Indy here on OSO. There may be others. Getting it set up was quite the project lots of it undertaken on the clients time, and we still don't have any real "turning data.". The owner is a serious motorsport guy and likely has a good feel for the rig. The race boat guys weren't afraid to turn their boat harder and harder until it spun-and deemed the setup at least one the EVO bottom not worth the the expense and effort to use. I doubt a pleasure boat owner is going to test like that. When it was all said and done he claims to be running 97 with an Indy and an Ilmor 725. That's for sure a fast boat, but the owner paid to thin out the skeg and put lots of time and effort into that so that setup isnt "stock itself" The end speed is not particularly impressive when you consider...The Merc 600 "stock" ran (I think) 101 with a bravo 1 on that same boat. I say "stock" because although everyone swears no on touched the engine -subsequent builds don't seem to be as fast per hp. A 28 EVO goes 100 or a bit better with a 710 and a "regular" drive Bravo 1. If you can get the same or better speed with a stout standard drive like an SCX and not have any turning issues you can save the the money for a surface piercing drive $$$$ and then the expense of 2-3000 per CNC milled prop- which would you choose? Its coming along and looking great.
I like that you can remove the wheel and plug the opening. Apparently in this scenario only one wheel turns so the co pilot can hold the wheel still until he/ she provides input. Uncle Dave http://i.imgur.com/eAtasxX.jpg |
