Snow Report

OK, so this forum has been dead for a while (guess not much boating going on in LG right now)....Well, to keep things going I thought that I would start this thread so that I can stay on top of the conds and get ready for sledding season. Anyway, heard the area got some snow...how much?

If we can't talk boats, might as well talk sled :ernaehrung004:

By the way, i am heading up this weekend to get some chores done...if anyone is available to meet up let me know....I spent last weekend at the 1/2 Mile drinking with the bartender and his girlfriend (the only people in the bar) until 3 in the morning......could use a change of scenery from that.

There is so much snow up there! I left CT at 6:30 am on Saturday and was on the trails by 11. We rode from 11-3:30 and then I had to put the sled away and head to a party in Albnay at night...talk about a long day. Chris and I broke the buttermilk trail from the top of Prospect to the Hudson river. The powder was so deep we had to stand the whole time and muscle the sleds through the powder. I dont think I turned the handlebars once. 500 feet from the end of our 60 mile ride, I must have hit a big branch under the snow. It hit the left ski and made the sled go HARD right. The bars were ripped from my hands and I went tumbling down the trail. My cat tried to climb a tree...made it about 5 feet.

Big Time 12-22-2008 09:22 AM

Most snow I've seen up there in Dec in a long time!! Next trip up is the 31st throught the 4th

TeamSaris 12-22-2008 04:52 PM

That sucks Pete. Sleds are registered as of today..maybe wendsday well head out.

otis311 12-23-2008 03:53 PM

Johnny, do you know the trails over to Brant Lake and that area from my house or Padinarium

Big Time 12-30-2008 08:57 AM

How did the trails hold up? Any first hand reports?

Gladhe8er 12-30-2008 09:38 AM

From another one of my sites. Another rider's report.

Decided to give SW a try yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. The groomer guys did a great job preping the trails for the big meltdown. Just about everything was groomed prior to the warm weather and the rain. When I showed up yesterday, driving up Rt9, the first thing I noticed was semi fresh groomer tracks crossing the road near Roaring Brook/Transfer Station. SW even Groomed some after the Rain & Thaw!

Did 61 miles on the trails. They were not perfect, there were some water holes here and there, but I have driven them MUCH worse in the past. From Luzerne, C4B, was groomed post thaw, up through Wilkie and Butler ponds, back to the transfer station. Prospect was hard packed & Ice. No pavement except for the top parking lot where there was no snow at all... GREEN. Even did the back side of prospect. This trail was very hard packed, and there were the usual washouts, but like I said I have seen it worse. Butermilk and the river trail was sweet like always. Some of the smaller trails varied and by 2PM the hardpack was started to loosen up and I noticed the corners starting show dirt.

In the end I was was happy, but I prepared for the worse. The guys in the groomers did a GREAT job with what they had to work with.

Indian lake, Ole Barn was awesome today

Trails were pretty good this weekend but they could use more snow. Hopefully Wednesday's storm stays al snow to cover up the bare spots/pebbles.

TeamSaris 01-05-2009 08:42 PM

Nice! Please give an update when it's all done.

TeamSaris 01-07-2009 05:23 PM

It was freezing rain most of the day, turned back to snow about 2 hours ago. Its slowing down though. At the very most id say about 5-6 inches, really packy stuff though, nice base.

Gladhe8er 01-08-2009 08:30 AM

That should improve the trails a lot, especially with the COLD weather coming in. I will give you a call on Sat AM to see if you want to meet up/ride with us.

Sweet, should be good riding this weekend!

How frozen is Lake George? It had just started to ice over last week I think, should def be frozen enough to hold the winter carnival this year hopefully.
