As Some Of You Know I Have Been Bringing My Mag Up To Standards.............i Have Had It With My 540 I Have Had The Motor Out Of The Boat 5 Times This Year I Cannot List The Problems My Fingers Will Hurt From Typing.......i Just Took The Plunge And Bought New Stainless Marine Gen 111 Exhaust And New Tail Pipes, Went All Through The Motor For The 4th Time, And Ran It Last Sunday For The First Time In 3 Weeks........

Well Let Me Start By Saying It Ran Flawless For The First Hour I Was Out Great Oil Temp Engine Temp And Oil Pressure..while Making My Way Back To The Ramp The Water Temp Heated Up To 180-185 So I Lifted The Hatches To Look Into My Sea Strainer, I Noticed The Water Was Not Moving Around In It As Fast As It Normally Does......no Big Deal I Had A Impeller In My Tool Bag. So I Shut The Hatch And When I Tiurn Around I Have Oil Pressure In The 12-14 Pound Range Not Good.............i Pull The Boat Out And Drop The Oil And Find Shavings In The Filter, And Of Course They Were Copper In Colr So I Know I Wiped Out A Bearing Hence The Drop In Pressure.....i Have Really Had It....................seriously Thinking Of Selling It I Am Just Sick About It........................

Is There Anything I Need To Know About Bearing Clearences, Because I Know The Crank Is Going To Have To Be Cut. I'm SurE It Is Scared Up.........

No Cig.sorry to hear about your eng.there is no big mystery about the clearances on a 540 over a 454 or 502,there all in the book.Everything your saying points to a dirty assembly,in other words did you or whoever redide the engine do a complete tear down with all the oil plugs out and a boil out before scrubbing with hot water an soap.If not you got a better chance of winning the lottery then you got of having that engine run much over an hour. I know how you feel. I'm on the third engine in my Donzi Minx, and I bet I haven't gotten 15 hours on it since I bought it over three years ago. I call it the Jinxed Minx. I did take it out last weekend, and made three short runs with the latest engine without anything going wrong, but you can believe, I was about over this boat. No matter what I did, I couldn't win.

It Makes Me Sick To My Stomach, All Day It Is What I Think About.. I Am Not Like A Lot Of Goes On This Site My Pockets Are Not That Deep (construction Worker) ........but I Have All Winter To Due It Again........so Expect More Posts And More *****in.................

Maybe you should have a machine shop or engine builder put it together and make sure all the clearances are perfect.......I wouldn't think it would cost that much?.......and yeah make sure it's perfectly clean.

BTW......did you ever find out if it was a race boat?........have any history?......it sure has all the tell tale signs of an old race boat.

the guy i bought it from said he was going to give me ALL the paperwork, but he has sort of dissapeared........Gave him all cash and he owed people a lot of money. He has bigger problems than me i think..............i know it use to be yellow and as far as he said the name was double vision i think???????????????
