I'm looking for some original teak step pads for my 27 Sport.

Like this.....

27sedan 03-07-2007 12:19 PM

I'm pretty sure West Marine still sells them.
I love your boat by the way.

Downtown42 03-07-2007 01:48 PM

Thanks guys. I found some that are similar but not exact.

I actually need the measurements on the originals......how long were they?

27sedan....thanks....are you talking about "Double Trouble"?......if so that's not my boat......:)

Here's mine:

Thanks Bud.......take pictures if you can.......there aren't many originals anymore.

27sedan 03-08-2007 12:38 PM

24degrees, I still love your boat, even though it's not the one I thought it was. I'm biased however, I love ALL Magnums. I just went to West Marine's website. You are looking for Traction step plates by Garelick. They are the aluminum with teak strips. I have the originals on my sedan and they look like the same thing. They work great, and obviously, last forever. I wipe them with teak oil once or twice a year and they look like new. If you run a folded towel down the aluminum between the teak parts, it shines right up.

Jeppe 03-01-2010 11:28 AM

24degrees, do you have the size of the step plates? I'm looking for a pair for my 27 Sport. I haven't found a pic of the Garelick ones yet so I can't see if they are identical to the originals.

Where did you find yours? Love your boat by the way.

Jeff I have all the photos, however my computer will not allow me to reduce some of then...will e-mail what I can.Need to fix the Problem. Bud

Jeppe 03-01-2010 04:20 PM

Congrats on the sport Bud! I thought you were a Maltese guy.

It seems everything is original on this one. You even have the Mercontrol throttle. I have one I'm renovating now to replace the ugly black plastic one some put on my boat.

If you don't need your hatch hardware I'm happy to buy it! ;-)

Mario L. 03-01-2010 05:48 PM

My 1968 has the original teak steps, no aluminum trim, and when I went to replace them last year, I was unable to find the same size pieces . . . close, but length was different and IRC the number of grooves was also different. I can take some pictures this week, the boat is covered in a snowy yard.

Correct Throttles

Jeppe have the original set of Throttles will send you pictures Tue.That is not my sport just know where it is...owner wants $30,000.What kind of hatch hardware are you looking for I might have it. Bud

24degrees 03-01-2010 07:10 PM

Jeppe....I ended up finding the step pads on Ebay. I think they were off of a Chris Craft?

I think they are 12 inches long but the important thing it that they're 7 strips wide instead of the 6 strip kind that are available these days...

:)

Jeppe,

I have the originals. Unfortunately my boat is hibernating until spring time.

With any luck, I'll be in Sweden this summer ;).

Jeff

24degrees 03-01-2010 10:25 PM

Bud....any idea what the hull number is on that Sport?.....should be late enough to be on the transom...

I need the hinges and the latches and If you can find a TRS hatch like the one on the blue Sport I might be interested.

It turns out I need all kinds of hardware if I want to get my mag in shape. She is quite a project. Fortunately I have the rest of my life to get her fixed. :)

Jeff, let me know if you are coming to Stockholm and I'll buy you a beer and show you the Mag. If she is in shape I might even give you a ride. :drink:

My pads are 7 strips, 16" L x 5-3/8" W .. The pads on my Sport were the same as my Sedan.

That figures....I'm shorter than average. Oh well, it's how you use the teak step pads....not the size.

Right?

:)

That sounds like the ones on the Maltese. What I have seen they are longer then the ones on the Sport.

I managed to get hold of Garelick who up until recently manufactured a close match to the original step pads. Garelick claims there step pad used to have 7 teak strips and 5.5" wide and 12" long. I have not yet seen a picture but there might be some laying around in Florida.

Jeppe, The hinges on my Magnum were casted by Chris Craft. It's on the back side.

Thanks Jeff! That means it's time to start digging in Chris Craft forums. Is it possible that the hatch latches are from Chris Craft as well?

24degrees 03-03-2010 02:54 PM

Jeppe..what boat do you own?....:)

mr vinyl 03-03-2010 02:58 PM

Hinges

Jeepe, you need to post what hinges your are looking for and the year of your Magnum. They have used different hinges during overall construction, and then some one should have it available. Bud

Jeppe 03-03-2010 04:19 PM

Sorry, I thought you all new which one me and my brother bought last fall.

It's an Orange '77 from lake St Claire. It's been on this forum before but unfortunately I can't post pictures right now. A hint; it spent a couple of days in Lake Erie, not on, in 2007. Thats when the hinges and the hatch disappeared.

Bud, I'll email you an old picture were the original hinges are still on.

It would be fantastic if you had a pair and if they need to be re chromed is not a problem. We plan to re chrome all the hardware next winter anyway.

I'm fortunate to already have the original Mercontrol but it also needs to be re chromed before I can replace the ugly black plastic teleflex control thats on now.

24degrees 03-03-2010 08:27 PM

Great boat Jeppe.....I'm glad to hear you're putting the correct hatch back on.

There they are! Those are the exact ones I'm looking for.:coolcowboy:

Now all I need is to find a pair thats available. If I'm lucky Bud might have some lying around.

I have found hinges that are close here: http://www.defender.com/product2.jsp?path=-1|10918|311444|296159&id=215379
but I believe they are smaller.
