Mike,i had lot of problems with hynatic over the years from what your tauking about to losing it altogether after 40mpi.Had a 22ft streight inbrd. with the eng. infront of the driver and after about 40 you had no steering, after compaining to the co. they sent out a new pump but did not cure it.Finally sold the boat and let sombody else fight with it. When i put Vixen together i put in a new capalono helm and love it,no power just hydralic. The guys used to complain that after the races their arms were tired but i did all the testing and felt safe with it.

Mike, yes we do run a dominator on the mech.540 and a 850 on the hydralic eng.Was always a believer in a little lean gave a little more power, but after running into some valve problems on 4 an 6 clyinders went back and set it up according to the merc book.cant say we lost much power but had no more trouble with 4 an 6 cylinders running lean.According to what i wrote down, the power valves were 6.5 and jetting was pri.98an sec.98.This may seem rich but it was a lot safer for the eng.Now that were running her as a pleasure boat i could probably lean it out a little bit but i know this works, so far,so why fool with it.Mick, i think this is somthing you have to play with on your own.Every time i got myself in trouble i went back to the merc book an seen how they did it and usually it came out ok.Sorry i couldnt help you more, but the 540 is a great way to make power but they can make you lose your religion real quick.
