ran the mag

Took it nice and easy saturday to break in the new mill, absolutly awsome, the boat ran great but i noticed a lot of water in my oil when i checked it................First things first dont ask me what cam i run because i have already been through that crap.............I have traced the problem from the tail pipes all the way through the risers into the manifolds......The manifolds are gen 111 stainless marine, i am just beside myself........... i have just about had enough................I sure hope the guy i bought these from helps me out..........They only have 3 hours on them and i rave about how great they are any chance i get..............

27 MAGNUM 05-06-2007 08:30 PM

Nocig, Sorry for your trouble.... are you running an oil cooler? could that be the leak? or are you saying you did you trace to the manifolds... if so, can't you just get a longer dry section of tailpipe?

nocigarette 05-07-2007 04:32 AM

i traced it to the manifolds, one side is leaking worse than the other.............

Mag27 05-07-2007 10:29 AM

No Cig,sorry to hear about your problem.I wont give you any BS because i been throu water problems too,and there no fun,and ontop of that your hair gets thinner each time.Your lucky your in fresh water and can clean up the mess without a complet tear down, down here with the salt water in the eng.you can just as well start over, once that salt gets in the bearing all you got is a piece of junk.As far as cam goes,i run a714 714 8center mech.and if that thing dont suck water nothing will.I got a set of 13--1 pistons on shelf i ran 2 times an filled up with salt both times, just couldnt hold a head gasket with them.give up an went with 10-1 and never had another problem.Hang in there i know how you feel right now. Mag27

nocigarette 05-07-2007 06:44 PM

thanks guys, i am going to pull the manifolds and check them first, i really dont think they are leaking.....I am thinking head related but the first spot to check it exhaust.......I tore the tail pipes off first, still water in the elbows, took those off and had very little water in the back too cyinders on port side and very back on starboard.......I cant believe it would leak on both sides....Less water on starboard though...It is barly a mist but still there.......gen 111 stainless just dont ever fail....

J-Bonz 05-07-2007 09:09 PM

What type exhaust and how old?
Jr.

tomas_wallin 05-08-2007 06:47 AM

Nocig mentioned Gen III's and about 3 years old further up the thread.

Hope it's an easy fix Nocig, so you may get out on the water soon!

Stormrider 05-08-2007 08:20 AM

Don't F around.
Send them to SM and get them up to par.
Unfortunately, you never really know what you are getting when buying used.

Jr.

nocigarette 05-09-2007 05:00 AM

bought them new, and put 70 pounds of air in them, then through them in my hot tub, no bubbles must be the heads or head gaskets ,intake etc......

Stormrider 05-09-2007 09:04 AM

I don't quite understand... you bought these new?
By reading this statement led me to believe they were used.
"I sure hope the guy i bought these from helps me out..........They only have 3 hours on them"

Either way, i'm glad its not the exhaust... good luck w/ the project... these boats can be killers to the soul when this crap happens.

nocigarette 05-09-2007 02:40 PM

Sorry i meant stainless marine but i buy all my stuff through scott from speed and custom marine.....Yeah this is frustrating but i will get it, The thing ran awsome minus the whole water in oil thing....

nocig: Mike did you get all the bugs out of the steering ? Hope all is well, the Mirage has clean sides now I took the [SWITCH] name off there still some shadows left but they should fade out. All thats left to do is change the oil and it's ready to run. See you in St Clair.

nocigarette 07-04-2007 05:52 AM

She is running great but still fighting the steering problem.....I would go out now and mess with it but i dont think the neighbors like the sound of air tools at 7:00 in the morning.....

Mange 07-04-2007 05:59 AM

NoCig,

Your boat looks great!! I really like the classic racing style look!
What speed are you at now? I can see you have plenty of space in the engine room..... Wait to see when I going to drop my engine in the boat tomorrow.... No space at all...

Mange

nocigarette 07-04-2007 08:53 AM

Thanks man!! I might splash tomorrow. 80mph is not bad! I did 80 straight with my Pantera 3man race. But she had the drive very low. Now we try with her cousine and drive 6 inch higher and 875 hp .... Love your boat and looking for a 27 Mag my self. /Mange

Mike I have been down that road, dont complain to much. Just want to make sure your Mag is safe If that dose not work let me know.

Mag27 07-12-2007 09:29 AM

Mike,i had lot of problems with hynatic over the years from what your tauking about to losing it altogether after 40mpi.Had a 22ft streight inbrd. with the eng. infront of the driver and after about 40 you had no steering, after compaining to the co. they sent out a new pump but did not cure it.Finally sold the boat and let sombody else fight with it. When i put Vixen together i put in a new capalono helm and love it,no power just hydralic. The guys used to complain that after the races their arms were tired but i did all the testing and felt safe with it.

Thanks mel.........Hey mel what power valves are you running in your 540 and where is your main jets.....I imagine you have a dominator carb..........Just trying to get everybodys thoughts on tuning for a 540

Mag27 07-13-2007 01:23 PM

Mike, yes we do run a dominator on the mech.540 and a 850 on the hydralic eng.Was always a believer in a little lean gave a little more power, but after running into some valve problems on 4 an 6 clyinders went back and set it up according to the merc book.cant say we lost much power but had no more trouble with 4 an 6 cylinders running lean.According to what i wrote down, the power valves were 6.5 and jetting was pri.98an sec.98.This may seem rich but it was a lot safer for the eng.Now that were running her as a pleasure boat i could probably lean it out a little bit but i know this works, so far,so why fool with it.Mick, i think this is somthing you have to play with on your own.Every time i got myself in trouble i went back to the merc book an seen how they did it and usually it came out ok.Sorry i couldnt help you more, but the 540 is a great way to make power but they can make you lose your religion real quick.
