Very many thanks for your offer, this was not quite what I had in mind at the time I was expecting an old 27` flat screen sport.and I belive this is a Maltese. Do you know if this is the same basic hull as the 1967 Magnum -Donsi No4 Magnum Tornado which had the 496 ci inboard engines and sank during the UK Cowes Torquay race that year.Do you have any additional pictures I could see please

28 Magnum
The 27 sport and the 28 Maltese have the same hull, just the deck is different. The 27 has a flat deck and the 28 which is a 27 has a raised deck for more cabin room. The 27 hull has been the same since its conception only the decks have changed. Don,s #4 Tornado was sold in 1967 to Balestrieri and was renamed The Black Tornado which is pictured in John Crouse book Searace pg 82. Don also raced a Maltese #4 see page 75 same book Unable to copy and send picture...always comes up black, a way to protect coping the color art from the book.Have never seen a 1967 flat deck like that...you could replace the deck with one like Tornado and have the only one ... Hi Bud, My name is Ian Toll in 1968 Balestrieri ran a white no 4 Magnum-Donzi 28 with a pair of 496 vee drive engines.During the Cowes - Torquay offshore race he delaminated the bow tank and sank the boat in 180` of water.I bought it on the bottom and 3 months later recoverd it with the help of thr British Royal navy. When I return home I will post the pictures.I rebuilt the boat twice, first as was, then as a sedan to race as a cruiser after which I sold it to a man in Sweden some 5 years later. One I should have keep it as a flat deck and two I should never have sold it but I needed a house at that time and somthing had to go.My son grow up with all this and thats why he and I are looking for a flat deck, flat screen like my old boat. The Topside of my 28` was about 4" deeper than a 27` and with the inboards had a flat vertical transom . The vee screen I came to buy was close in year but not in looks.I sent your pictures back home to my son and we are still talking about it but in truth I`am trying to wind the clock back 40 years !! and at least try to put right one of my mistakes. Thanks Ian

Kal,
You might be interested to know that Aronow's original 28 Maltese Magnum is being restored by OSO member "Vintage Offshore Classics". This is the single engine boat on page 75 in "Searace". The owner recently moved it from Seattle to Miami. I don't think he is interested in selling it though.
If your interested in a 1976 V-fairing 27 Magnum Sport hull, mine is for sale. Good luck!
