By the pictures it looks like you rolled the bottom paint on?

BTW, Beautiful boat!!

Mario L. 08-31-2014 08:46 PM

Bottom was rolled on.

These engines were tuned and run in on the Dyno, tuned and built for 6000-7000 rpm. Oil pans have windage trays and hold 8 qts.. Mid season spark plug check showed proper AFR, No misfires, only run on Shell or Mobil 93. Both dynoed at 465hp.
Disassembly will ID the issues. I suspect rings, wrong hone. Everything was coated, pistons, combustion chambers, bearings..... No cost savings, but somewhere the builder / assembly persons fu'd up.

Mario that really sucks!!.........I remermber you speaking of the incident and the passing of the engine builder...... if you know at what stage the original builder's
work had ceased and where the secondary builders began?......then those parts failing or incorrectly installed could point to this outcome. kick back awhile &
recharge for abit though!!!

Mario are the motors still in the boat? Do not pull them until you are sure that you have proper crankcase ventilation. Had a 502mpi with a similar issue and turned out there was a piece of paper towel stuck in the valve cover from when the customer had the valve covers painted. Motor push oil out the dipstick when we fired it on the Dyno. Could be very simple, if it's both motors I'd start with the simple (easily overlooked) items.

Mario, if you don't want to go far, there is a good builder in Freedom, NH. Right near Ossipee Lake.
603-539-2725 Mike Kondrat at Kondrat Customs. Tell/m Scott from CFM recomended you. He's a great guy that cares.

====================

I boat the same lake. Was hoping to bump into you on the water to catch a glimpse of your beautiful boat.

Mario give Bill [redaleart] a call he has used Tyler Crockett for many of his engine builds. Or if you want someone closer to you .Jason Saris from Lake George comes highly recommended. Mark

Mario, sorry to hear your problems. I can squirt a little oil out a dipstick but nothing like you described but it makes sense to check into the ventilation. Maybe you have no damage if you caught it quick enough...
If you need to pull them +2 on Jason Saris.

Preciscion racing engines in dighton mass. Very familiar with marine engines. They do stock rebuilds all the way to 1500 hp pump gas motors for his nephews outerlimits. They do all my machine work, I go back over everything and assemble. I've never had an issue with them.

Thank you for all the suggestions. A few phone calls to be made.
My biggest regret, I should have bought Short Circuit before it went to Tahoe! My 401k would be much better off! Bill, please add my name to the waiting list for that boat!

We set up with just breathers the rocker covers, this was fine all of last year with no oil deposits. Mid summer I found oil in the bilge getting pushed past the rear and front mainseals, and oil on the tops of the rocker covers. Next I added a PCV system with spooge tanks, with no improvement.
Never seeing any signs of oil burning, either fouled plugs or smoking, and the loss of power, plus identical symptoms on both engines at virtually matching run time, I can only conclude that the compression rings are wrong, and the oil control rings are ok.

The bright side, I get the opportunity to change what I didn't like in the set up on the next assembly.......
