Prayers needed. HIGH LIFE killed.
Yesterday driving his beloved 27 Magnum sedan, Mike Spirito was killed in a boating accident off the Massachusetts coast. Mike was better known on OSO as HIGH LIFE.
Mike was an old school offshore racer from Massachusetts and competed in many Gloucester and Plymouth races over the years. He loved the 27 foot Magnum sedans and was driving one with twin 300 HP Merc outboards when the accident happened. The police are still investigating, but in general terms here is what happened....Four boats were running together and were going over a large cruiser wake, Mikes boat either tripped on the wake and stuffed... or rolled on re-entry. The deck tore off and Mike was killed instantly and his passenger sustained massive chest injuries and is hospitalized. The hull with the engines sank and the deck was towed in to the Coast Guard station by the inlet. Please remember Mike and his family in your prayers. Funeral arrangements are yet to be made. He was a really good guy who died doing what he loved so much, may God have mercy on him and may he rest in peace. |
Michael was a fun guy to talk with - he was always laughing and full of excitement, which is contagious . We got along very well and I will really miss knowing he is only a phone call away. I used to tell him that he was an eggbeater pusher - lol. He was a real stand up guy and his death is very sad news - at least he was doing what he really enjoyed. Godspeed, Michael - your friend, Bill

Oh my God :( Just talked to him a while ago. We were comparing notes on our twin O/B boats and putting together a Bahama's trip.
Wow! Prayers to family and friends. Thanks Mike, you were a class act and not to be forgotten. |
u can see my story here.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/n...high-life.html he was tied up to me all day, we where first on the seen, we saw it happen and helped. in the photos you will see a colord feller on the bow of a 33 outlaw, he was helping hold mikes body abover water, he is a mess right now about this as he knew mike almost as long as myself and we where all together all day. very very sad. what happened was the boat disintegrated, it looked like it blew up but no fire, it splintered and just split apart into rubble, the boat let go, maybe from years of pounding, maybe from to much hull speed, not sure but it was like nothing i have seen. the boat was gone in seconds and the motors went off the boat and ran with just the bracket for a few and then sunk, they stayed running. im not 100% sure but i would not doubt for 1 second if the motors ran him over. it was a scary scary and sad day. i just keep seeing it over and over. his girlfriend was on my boat when it happend, thank god the 3 girls he had didnt go for the fly by or there would be 3 more lifes in danger. he asked me 3 times to go and i didnt. im beside myself. very very sad. my thoughts and prayers are with mike and his family and they have not stopped. ive been out of it since last night, throwing up, and just out of it. not something anyone should have to go threw. very sad. the only thing and i mean only thing is this, i know mike, i know his love for this sport and his need for speed, if he had a choice on how he was going to leave this world i know it would be on his boat. not like this and not at his young age of 58, but i know he would want to go out on his mag, he loved that boat!! rip mike. |

With all the pain assscoiated with that day last week and having seen the worst, it's really great that you guys are stepping up for a close friend and his family........Seeing the "in Memory of HIGH LIFE" above is still hard to believe, but very tastefully done. |
