I picked up a early 70's 27 sedan last month in Pa. & am planning to restore as a resto-mod with modern Mercury Smartcraft -fly by wire motors & drives, modern retro gauges, LED lighting, etc..
It was originally done in purple but someone had it painted yellow & painted the name "The Viking" on the side. It looks as it had another name when it was purple that is lightly bleeding through the yellow in places. It also looks as if it had been repowered from the original Volvo's & it seem from the fuel filters mounts, wiring, & Merc-cathode remnants that the last set of motors (removed prior) were Mercury's. I am looking for pictures of the rear bench seat & sun pad as they were removed & any history of the boat. |

I didn't have to replace my tanks when I did mine, but I did replace the old look through a window in the floor system with a pair of gauges on the dash. Much easier on the knees. I would love to see pictures of your progress. I think you need to be a paid member to post pics. This is the only shot I have on this computer that shows the sunpad and rear seat.

The Viking name is no more. Just completed wet sanding from rub rail down. Now starting the upper sedan cap. Will try to figure out how to post pictures??? |

OK lets try this. This is my facebook Magnum album i just started. I will add as we progress if this works.
Looking like we will have to takeout a good transom& install new one to install the Merc bravo's.... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...6391882&type=1 |
h2oboater: the back seat came with the hull when I bought it. I had it recovered a couple of years ago. It is a free standing unit that uses the brackets shown in post#2

OK Just got the word from multiple sources these are Volvo holes.
So, I just green lighted the replacing transom to start on Monday. After much talk I've decided 300 HP mercs (Fly by Wire of course) linked to Bravo 1 XR shorts. My Merc reps have agreed to assist in location & consult with install. fuel tank is almost completed. Will leave the sight glass in floor but not in tanks as the supplier can't be located. Any one needing a replacement tank PM me for a quote. We are very good at tig welding... Our sewing shop is completing patterns for interior cushions this week, still looking at fabrics & vinyls. I just can't get my head around the candy strips Also torn on going with rebuilt original windshield vs low profile plexi?? Also thinking about eliminating the existing bow rail. Have seen pictures of Dade county police versions with forward radar arch but no bow rails. Thanks for input and advise... |
