Replacement rails
 

Anybody have a lead on replacement (teak or rubber) rails for step plates?......... These wood inserts are a little worn & I'd rather replace with new, but if none can be found these can be restored.
The step plates are ( 5 1/2" x 16") an exact fit for my 27 sport.

On a side note, I just got the step plates back after sending them out to Al's polishing. Glad I removed all the wood rails, they would have turned to saw dust!
They wrongly sand blasted to remove some glue residue in the channels and pitted the soft aluminum ridges :poopoo:

Thanks Bud.........Right now I won't to see if I can replace the rails with new inserts (plates are going back to the polisher, not happy with the outcome) are there no resources out there for teak or rubber inserts?........might have to restore the old ones.

Restore what you can,remake new ones. Bud

I had the same steps on my scarab and the wood was in the same poor shape. I chose to update the look rather then restore the wooden ones. I think they turned out pretty good!!

Sent mine to chrome platers. Will post pics when I get them back.

I left it to the polisher to use his best judgement to clean up the plates. Regretably poor judgement used (sand blasted out the glue residue in the wood insert channels which pitted much of the prestine finish on these orginal step plates)....DON'T EVEN LET THEM THINK!!

I hear you! If you dont hold their hands and almost do the work for them you rarely get what you expect. No pride in workmanship anymore and no knowledge.

What are plans to fix the screw up? I can recommend the two shops below without hesitation.

Blue Mountain polished my seat posts and sliders to perfection and B & L has done unbelievable chrome plating.

It might be easier/cost effective to just have new teak inserts made. I have used Buck Woodcraft for my teak lumber purchasses, they also do mill for custom orders. They are in Marathon FL.
