Hello everyone from a Mag 53 newbie
Let me introduce myself , you can call me Mag
I have started restoring my 80's 53. Much slower than expected, partly due to the economy, partly just laziness as in been enjoying the boat way too much.
I try to learn to do as many things possible by myself. Slow but I'm getting there, just don't know when.
Any advice is welcome. I actually having a dilema : to take off the front deck railing or not to
I saw Magnums in Europe were oh so sleek (or slick, whichever) w/o railings
Beauty before safety, no?

Gio, yours looked georgeous!
Mine's Detroit 720hp each (if I'm not mistaken) with classic straight shaft drives, a rarity since by then most has gone to Arneson
Where to find the number of the hull? So it is true that only 100 53s made, or wait a minute only 55 were made?
Pics need to wait a while, we've gone through a historical horrible winter and just started to clean up

My 53 has born without safety rails and i like it much more
Only 55 not 100 of 53' hull,the last one in 1994
Hull' number is over the transom on the upper right side
53 is surely one of the best big Magnum ever built as all boat owner know all over the world

Gio,
I heard 53s are the last speedboats to be built like a tank, heavy to move too, that's for sure. and I bet your motor is way way faster...
mines seven years older than yours and I can't find the number over the transom, painted over maybe?
Yours is exactly what I described as the Magnums I saw in Europe on my first post, railings crowding the sleek magnum lines, I even consider to take off the arch too
and I bet your motor is way way faster...
How long have you had it? I only got mine last year, a long restoration to go
(I'm going to use this helmet icon as my signature, it's a speedboat we need somekind of head protection, don't you agree

Yes,53 is very heavy, that' s why needs lot of engine power
You are right...mine has a couple of 1420 Cat each and Arneson drives
Cruising speed 44'knots and 53 top
Bought it in 2006 and restore it at all; has been hard and expensive but now i have my 53
And will never replace it with another boat; like it none will built again and you better believe it,maybe the 53 is the best Mag of all

So far we hit 20 at 2000 rpm, but yours wow
All I can do so far is throwing weights I do not need. But its sturdy hull was my main reason I chose Magnum over others.
Gives me a safer feeling when on the water
