SideWinder Propellers,
For the technically minded the video kindly posted by Ratman72 shows " SideWinder" running for the most part at 5700 RPM full open spinning Spinelli 14.24" x 26" 3 blade Cleavers giving 70.5 MPH and as solid as a rock with outstanding out of the hole performance.
However we then tried a pair of 4 blade Hydromotve 15.25" x 25" which I had my doubts we would be able to pull but to my surprise once we got a bite coming up on to the plane we archived 71 MPH at 4900 RPM with a very large amount of stern lift." Very Exciting"may be a little to much so.
We are now customising these propellers starting by reducing the diameter down to 14.75" and changing the rake angle by 2 degs. plus extending the cup to provide a better out of the hole performance. The optimum RPM for the cam is circa 5600 so if we can hit 75 MPH at around 53/5400 RPM I will be very happy, anything over that will be pure bonus. Not too bad for a 43 year old boat. PS at 70 MPH this 27 Sport is a very stable outstanding ride and well worth the effort of the full rebuild.
