paint decision

Hi everyone, recently bought a 27ft magnum marine "LANCER" as a huge project,Will be doing major modifications on the hull, interior, deck, dash, custom paint and much more, so my question is what would be the best paint to be used on the boat.My issue is is painting the bottom of 70+mph boat what's going to work and hold to the bottom?Thank's everyone in advance!

h2oboater 10-11-2013 10:24 PM

Is it a Klem Gem Lancer or a Magnum ?????

h2oboater 10-12-2013 12:24 AM

I have found PPG concept single stage paint works well, that what I painted my Magnum Sports deck & bottom with. But as most paints if left in the water for some time it will blister.

Thunder 2013 10-12-2013 12:28 AM

Not sure it has magnum marine logos on both sides and title says1980 lancer 27!!!How the PPG is aplied roller or spray gun.

I sprayed it. Glass Dave here on OSO is the expert, here are some links about PPG paint. Before you paint check all the wood [stringers,, transom] for moisture, most of Klems boats used poor wood & have rot.

That will be the first things to do i will remove all the wood used +floor boat has been sitting since 96 when i picked it up it had about 30+gallons of water inside basicly i bought the hull only everything else will be replaced/repaired and i'm also chanching the desighn on top and will open the deck area toward the front about 2 feet will be a major very long project but i hope at the end it will be one of a kind!

here ya go .... how dangerous was the neighborhood where it was??

h2oboater 10-12-2013 08:35 PM

That hull would be a Jim Klem Lancer, no chrome side vents, deck hardware & the nav light on the bow. If you restore it right you will have a fun boat.

Thunder 2013 10-13-2013 09:30 AM

Will be goong thru the whole boat.wiil be cutting and replacing floor, stringers, hull will be painted, dash is going out, seats will be different style,it is a lot of work .it would not shift out of gear, drop the drive yesterday i hope i can find parts for this drive.will be taking the transmission out today.the 454 will be build to 496 stroker.will try to make it go 80mph.

h2oboater 10-13-2013 09:58 AM

Is it a Sternpower drive? If it's a mechanical in the drive shifter they are a pain & parts may not be available, I had two Klem boats with them. The Sternpower drives that use a transmission are bullet proof .

Thunder 2013 10-13-2013 10:24 AM

it is a sternpower with borg warner transmission(not sure of model) lever on trans moves back and forth but it stays in gear.I think it's a sternpower 84sp,has a cleaver style prop beat up looks 15x21,What speed you think i should be getting

Seals & bearings are common industry stuff like you could find at Mc Master Carr. For hard parts try here.

And this place may have parts & info.....
