Default magnum 27 steering helm needed

Helping out a bud of mine with his magnum 27 sedan. His goal is to just repair /replace what is needed before a total strip down and rebuild. He has the original teleflex cable steering. what should he replace it with? has twin 300 hp and volvo 270 drives.

Why not just put a new cable in? I have 350 mags in mine and I use the cable steering with no problems. The speed is not high enough to warrant hydraulic. Let's see some pictures

Thanks, that was our concern. if the cable system was up to the task as opposed to hydraulic steering. I have to see how to post some photos

I think the type of props you use effect the steering. I have a 24' twin engine Donzi Doral that has Michigan stainless wheels & the torque on the steering wheel is crazy. I had the same problem with my X-18 Donzi with a stainless Solex prop, I put a Hynautic Hydraulic system on it , all is good now. If you use Nibrow or aluminum props you dont seem to get that torque load & the cable steering my be OK. My sport Mag came with Hynautic steering & with my Magnum sedan I'm restoring now I just went with Hynautic Hydraulic. If you shop around ebay you can find reasonable cost used systems, & that what I did with my sedan...

I agree with Mark, put in Hynautic Hydraulic, so you have the opportunity to use various props. Call Tom Mitch, he might have an old one available.
