The original boat was a 35 footer that was raced with a flat deck. It was made in both a sport model and a cruiser model. It was stretched to a 38 footer and the boat really came alive in this new size.

Don Aronow bought the company back in the 70's and built a 38 foot dark blue hull, sport deck boat for himself with big gas engines. It had silver trim for both the deck and the bottom. Naturally when people heard it was built for him, the price went through the roof and he ended up selling it for a big profit, after using it only a few times.

I had the same type boat built, a 38 using gas engines on shafts. It was very light and actually sat above it's lines at anchor due to the smaller gas engines weight vs diesels.

TB, funny you say that, because there was a 35 at my marina and we had this 38. My dad always told me the 38 was a MUCH better running boat than the 35. Ours was not that light, but we had blueprinted 454s. :D

Your boat reminds me of the boat that Bob Nordskog had built for himself....he named it "Ellie's Boat" for his wife...it looked almost exactly like that.

As we all know, they then went to a 40 then a 44 and bigger.

When Ted Theodoli owned Magnum he was delivering the very first 63 footer to a client in Rhode Island at the 1984 America's Cup Races.

He invited me and my family to go out with him for the final sea trial which also included watching the races. It was a beautiful boat and seemed to run best in this length rather than the 53 it was originally.

Ted was one of the best people you would ever want to meet, sorry he is no longer with us. A real gentleman.

I went out with Ted on the 1st 53 they finished on an early sea trial.
There was no interior or engine hatches!!!
But there had to be at least 12 guys on the boat.
I was only like 7-8, and it was waaay cool.
Also, our 38 was the last boat that Don delivered for magnum.

TB, how did the 40 handle compared to the 38?
I like the lines of the 38 better, but there are way more 40s available on todays market.
If the 63 was better than the 53, how was that hull in the 45?

And yes, Ted was a great guy. I spent some time at the plant as our boat would go there yearly, and even went to lunch w/ him and Katherine. I was too young to really appreciate it, but i remember it well.

Here is a shot of that first 53...Ted was a turn boat at one of the Bacardi races out of Miami.

The 38 handled better than the 40, but everyone wanted bigger....the same with the 45....you were really starting to get into a BIG boat then so all the rules of the 38 performance standards were changed.

I've got a photo somewhere of Brownie testing a 45.

Arnesons, hands down for speed...they are a bit of a handful with slow speed stuff around docks etc. but you get used to it.
