Those things are nothing but dangerous!!! About 3 yrs ago I watched a father and son racing one on the Northeast River in MD (Chesapeake).

Went in a turn real hard, rolled it! The father died. Damn shame.......I felt really bad for the kid.

That is a Jersey Speed Skiff. The competiton boats have a roll bar and run a two man crew. They are made to hop like that, they have a rocker bottom. That is an East coast race class. On the West Coast we have the Cracker Box class. I used to race and owned several Crackers. They are a lot of fun, also have a rocker bottom, two man crew. Front engine, limited to 314" and direct drive. My boat used to turn 7,800 rpm and ran about 95 mph (that was 10 years ago). They are going faster now. They need to hop like that to break the surface tension of the water.

My daughter was my race partner, this photo was just after we won the Havasu Classic in 1999

That doesn't even look fun.... looks more like you may die, but 100% sure you'll have to go to the chiropractor afterwards lol.

The ride is rough, but sitting at the transom helps. Guarantee
that after a weekend of racing we were all sore, and would call each other up to see if the other guys in the club were sore. We all were, but after a week you get over it. The adrenalin rush is worth it.

I do get it, Cracker Boxes and Jersey Speed Skiffs are a ball, I love to drive them and race them and love to watch the races too. The are about as much fun as you can have in a boat.
