Go prohd
Just got a GoPro HD and was watching tutorials. With you guys using them on boats I have 2 questions.
1. What size SD card is best? 2. Wht is the best setting for recording the action while running? |
I just got my gopro on Friday so still learning. I ordered this card from Amazon and it seems to work ok

I set ours to video R4 (which is 960P). It seems to have more of a fish eye image.
The card that we use is the Lexar Platinum II 8GB SDHC. Check with who you buy it from, make sure it is a card that can store HD images. The 8GB holds enough video video for how we use the camera. Here is a video I put together of the different video settings in the same conditions... https://vimeo.com/16171125 Hope this helps and have fun! |
I use a 16GB card and like the 720p/60fps setting best. 1080p/30fps is a little choppy for my taste as I feel like you lose some of the sense of speed. I use the 720/60 for both the boat and car.

Get the biggest SD card you can. You can get 32gb now and they aren't priced too bad. I use r3 like Deemo said above, 720/60fps. 1080 is cool but can be a bear to work with unless you have a bad ass computer. 720 works great for YouTube and viewing on your PC. If you were going to watch on your hd tv you may want to give 1080 a try but they use a lot of space on your card. I am not a fan of the 960p setting because it is not widescreen. You can edit it down to widescreen but that can be a pain. Get a decent editing program too. Nobody wants to see your face at the start and end of every video lol. I use Vegas movie studio. It's pretty nice and only $100.

I have 2 go pro hero 2's on my 35 fountain and shoot in 1080, yes on the computer it can be time consuming since i am using a 2.8 Ghz precessor but it looks bad ass on my 178" HD theatre screen!!

Also definately use 32G SD card I like the ultra from WalMart for the price and capacity, never had an issue with video yet.

I film in R3 also but I am having the hardest time editing my videos as they are seriouly choppy, the picture freezes a lot but the sound is continous. Is it my computer? It's not the latest greatest, actualy its about 6 yrs old. I was thinking of getting a MAC. I did by the Vega program to edit but doesn't help with the freezing issue. What's the min requirements for a PC to run the 720/60fps or is there a setting on the gopro that I can actual edit on my PC.

Slow computer
I just purchased from Best Buy a 2.8Ghz processor laptop by acer and after researching I found all the internal parts are the same just the name on the laptop is different and I record in 1080 wide screen with no stopping during playback whatsoever. The best part is $419 for the laptop.
