The only thing I would think would hold that driveshaft in the form of a shield would be titanium, like bellhousings use, or simply use loops to keep the shaft spinning on it's axis. Simple fix.

This is what was mandated in our cars in 2010. Going from a single loop to a dual with a titanium shield.

Don't get offended, I think they put it up here to be discussed. I still think endurance racing is hard to compare to drag racing however.

Also, there is a chance they do have an adequate drive shaft that may have had a one time undetectable manufacturing flaw, that may not be an issue in the future.

I commend you for offering advice, most of us here wouldn't even think about making suggestions to a team with that much experience and so many trophies

EDIT- I will not do physics when drunk again....

That's ridiculous, a steel tube could easily constrain that thing. Also, it seems more about the shield tearing away form its mounting more than it seem an issue of ultimate strength.

Before the explosion a nice shiny K&N oil filter, after the explosion, no more oil filter !

What happened to that 1650? Do your engine controls shutdown the engine for low oil pressure? Any fail safe measures taken? Hope it lives to see another day.

we use run all season and then some ..no issues but we make sure everything is true and their is no binding..

thanks marc for posting. we the fans were quite curious to 'see' what the hell happened and the posting of this 24 hours after the incident speaks volumes for your professional, safety, and fan-education acumen. as for the vid itself, WOW. explosive, and amazing to have the opportunity to see that up close. even my wife was riveted by seeing this video. as for what can be improved, some great debates in prior posts, and it's good to see MGRT approach it open to feedback from other sources. clearly, there can be improvement in that link in the 'chain'

we look forward to seeing you guys rebuild, better, stronger, faster, and rock out in cocoa beach (and whip cms' a__) again like in kw :)

Yeeep that would have saved my buddy's girlfriends arm if he would have only listened to me before that horrible day in NC..or was it SC..

2300 pounds is a force not a mass. I calculate it to be about 4600 lbs force (2 gs would double the weight) no 148000?
