looking to relocate
 

we are begining to look for some waterfront property in the virginia area, we are into poker runs, and traveling with our boat. anybody have some suggestions are were we should begin looking ?

I may be slightly biased, but to me the Tidewater area is perfect. IC waterway for river activities and watersports, the bay and and ocean with several hangout spots and waterfront resturants, and at least 4 or 5 poker runs during summer. One of which is Jammin on the James with over 100 boats.

I would go for waterfront properties in the following order:
Linkhorn or Broad Bay and boat out of the Lynnhaven inlet (probably the nicest AND most expensive area)
Southern VaBeach near the oceanfront and boat out of Ruddee inlet
Anywhere on the Elizabeth River (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth) and go just about anywhere
Southern VaBeach and boat on the IC waterway or head up to the Norfolk Harbor area (about a 2-3 hour ride with 3 lift bridges and 1 set of locks to get to the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay)

Anyway, to me, it's all here, and it's not nearly as crowded as northern Va. I love it! BTW, some of our poker runs take us to the ocean and BIG water which is always the best to me! :)

We have a house on the Chickahominy river (just outside Williamsburg) and the house next door is being voluntarily turned back over to the bank. We have 9 ft of water at low tide and can cruise to the Hampton Roads area in an hour or less. The big advantage is that the river is still considered FRESH WATER. Alot of good boaters in the Richmond/Hampton Roads area, good luck with the search.

We are on the Potomac River. While most of the boating activities we participate in are on the lower half, the upper navigable waters do provide some great sites. DC waterfront, Old Town Alexandria, Ft Washington, and more. The lower provide a lot more varielty. We do have poker runs and have access to the Chesapeake Bay for even more boating. Equal distance from Annapolis or Va Beach.

It is really going to depend on where you want to live, boating is exciting wherever you can drop it in the water.

Joey, are you looking for a residence or vacation home? I'm partial as well, but I have to say we have it all here in Tidewater. And the Lynnhaven Inlet/Linkhorn Bay is where I grew up and keep coming back to after moving to Colorado and South Carolina. I just love it here for all the action both on and off the water. My first choice for waterfront would be Bay Island....if and when I can afford it. :rolleyes: Although living three blocks from the oceanfront ain't so bad. On those super windy days we pack up the cart and walk to the beach. :D

If you are looking for a second home, definitely consider the Chickahominy River. Great place to chill.

Hey Buddy! I am a Realtor in MD and I suggest looking at some waterfront around the Baltimore area...if you would like PM me your e-mail and can e-mail you some listings. I boat out of Middle River, the harbor is a 15 minute ride and all Poker Runs are easy access...plus there are close profile spots, such as Hart Miller Island, Fairlee Creek, River Watch, Kent Knarrows, Rock Hall, Still Pond, Strawberry Point, the list is endless and you wont burn alot of gas getting everywhere!! I also see alot of people boating out of Pasadena, another good spot!!

Baltimore
 

The only problem with Baltimore is, Well, its Baltimore.....

:eek: As much as I like the Hampton Roads area of VA I have to admit the Baltimore region has a little more to do for a boater (they both are good though). Our last over-night trip into Baltimore Harbor included a couple pics of syrenges floating in the water under the swim platform! :(
