Thunder on the Bay, whos going...

I was thinking about attending Thunder on the Bay June 6-7. Who is all going? Sounds like a pretty good time.:cool-smiley-026:
This would be my first poker run, any advice?

Jammin' 02-19-2008 06:36 AM

Might be fun. It would be my first as well. I put it on my calendar.

Run_em_hard 02-19-2008 06:48 AM

Here is the web site for the uninformed:angry-smiley-038:

www.thunderonthebay.com

Hollowpoint 02-19-2008 07:06 AM

Any info or website for that? Who puts it on?

Advice? Full tank of fuel, you'll burn alot, no matter what kind of boat you have. It has something to do with ego and severe uncontrollable muscle spasms that tend to push the throttles forward :)

Plan on alot of fun!

Sorry, your post beat me to my question....

Run_em_hard 02-19-2008 12:27 PM

I am going to do it...anyone else?

Sacred Ground 02-19-2008 06:28 PM

We will be there-
Jeff Jennings puts on a super nice run-great food & great fun

You should get Eric to run his Tiger in it. :D

offshoredrillin 02-19-2008 08:49 PM

I might be able to make it, it's the week after the OC races...:D

scottc 02-19-2008 09:57 PM

Might give the old Formula a try for this one. Anyone run around 45-50 mph I can follow?

The video that they have on the website shows a cruiser in it. You might want to call and see what speeds the three waves are set up for.

Hollowpoint 02-20-2008 06:39 AM

Not knowing your particular poker run, pretty much you can run any speed you wish. They should have the stops scheduled so that anyone can make it in the alloted window if you cruise 30-40mph. Check your entry form, but the only real restriction you normally see is a minimum size, especially if there will be rough water. I think the Jammin on the James PR has like a 23 or 24' minimum length.

Sacred Ground 02-20-2008 04:55 PM

VelocityRick-I see Eric this weekend and try to get him going-
The boat races are the weekend before so no problems there-
Are you going to both ?

Beak Boater 02-20-2008 06:58 PM

Jeff,Karen, and crew put on a great event. Best food you will ever have at a poker run. Ran Rock the Bay last fall and had a ball!!! The only thing I noticed is it starts on a Fri. and goes to Sat. Not sure if I can get off to run it. Advice, Jeff is a strict believer in PFD's make sure you have one for all on board. Also Water on the Water and Beer on the pier. No drinking and that goes for passengers also during the run. If you get the chance make it for sure.:D:D:D

These rules are great and should be concidered at all Poker Runs.

Hot Duck 02-21-2008 12:47 PM

Unfortunately we will be in Jacksonville for another poker run that weekend, but we will be in Ocean City for the OPA races the weekend before!

I won't be going to the races. There's a PR in NY that weekend. I usually hit NY 5 or 6 time in the summer. Say hello to Eric & Rhonda for me. See you this summer.

I just got the paperwork in the mail the other day, $600.00 is entirely too rich for me. Between that and $400+ in fuel.......( I know, my boat is small)

The pictures are from the speedwake runs. The Thunder on the Bay Run is from Red Eyes to Nauti Goose and stops in between and then back to Red Eyes and was run in 2000-2003 until Ed Mossmiller was killed in an accident (not during the run) and they stopped doing the run. It WAS a great run when it was handled and run by the crew at Red Eyes and Nauti Goose. It also gave to a charity.

I second Beak Boater's comment. We were at RTB last year and it was a ton of fun! I just talked to Jeff and as of right now it looks like there are about 70 boats or so. Should be a great time. We are heading out to MD for the run also. We'll be on the Absoloot boat with Levy. I encourage anyone who can attend, to attend. Here is a link to picture of the RTB poker run that they put on in Sept.
