Default Seeking Charleston SC info

You folk have helped this way before when planning trips, so again I'm seeking local knowlege.

We will be visiting Charleston SC on 9/16-17 to check out the town and mainly the Medical University of SC with/for my daughters post grad schooling after one more year at Ohio State.

We will have the boat as this will follow our weeks vacation on Lake Norman. Since we're already 2/3 of the way there we figured what a perfect time to check the area out for a couple days.

Looking for marina info and places on a "must see/go" list for our 2 short days there. A waterfront restaurant/bar or two is a must, to go by boat. We plan on getting a transient slip for the night at a marina with nice facilitys. I've found a few listed including the City marina which looks nice and w/in walking distance of the Hospital/University. We want to walk and boat the town for the weekend and see if this is where my daughter would be happy and safe for the next four years.

The other issue is our dog may be with us. If we have too send her home Saturday with my other daughter we could. Are the outdoor bars and marinas pet frendly?

Thanks in advance for your time and local knowlege!
Mark

If you want to visit some nice places go to Mount Pleasant when you are in Charleston. There are a couple restaurants on the water that you can pull up to in your boat. I can't remember the names though, I'll get back to you. As far as a marina goes I am not sure, I can take you to a good place to launch your boat on the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek though. It is up the Cooper River a little ways and as long as you launch in high tides you won't have any problems. It is a pretty nice ride going out on the Cooper River into the bay and on out to the ocean. You'll pass through a couple nice bridges, 2 navy nuclear powered submarines (you'll actually be with 50 yards of these), the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier museum, and the famous Fort Sumter. There is an island out in the bay (I can't remember the name of it right now though) where people usually pull up on the beach and hang out.

MUSC is a pretty good school from what I understand. If you are into baseball there is a single A team really close by with VERY cheap tickets. Bill Murray actually owns the team and is at the games sometimes. I'll post again later with some good restaurants to eat at while you are here also and if you need anything while your in the area you can feel free to give me a call.

Thank you very much!
I've reserved a dock at the City Marina. They have a ramp which they said isn't the greatest unless tide is up but Wapoo ramp is across the river a mile or two away.

Found the Boat House rest on Sullivans island at Breach? inlet/cut. Looks nice and is between Atlantic and intercoastal waterway.

Thanks again. Hope to hear more local info.

The city marina has a good restaurant and bar, and the place he was referring to in Mt. Pleasant is Shem Creek. They have several good restaurants and bars over there, and there is a landing at Shem Creek as well. I haven't been down there in a few years, but they did have RB's, Ronnies, and others at Shem Creek as well as the Shem Creek Inn is a good motel right on the water there. Also, you can hit California Dreaming from the water accross from the city marina and there is a motel or 2 right there. There are probably at least 20 places accessable by water within 5 miles of the city marina. Watch your speed in the harbour and near the battery. They usually patrol it heavily.
