I really like the trailer in the link that Sydwayz posted, looks nice and the price is right. But I would have to burn 2 days of leave to pick it up and probably $600 in gas/hotel. I got a quote on a brand new aluminum from a dealer here and it was $3700 out the door. Think I'm going to go look at the galvanized one this week.

Let me know if I can help. I can help with the purchase, and store it here at my house if you like.

But if you can get a new one for $3700, and sell your existing trailer in the midwest market, AND have help fitting the new trailer to the boat by the dealer---it's probably a wash to go ahead and buy the new one.

Thanks for the offer to help. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I do want to have the boat on another trailer by spring so I can sell the old one up here before moving. Might be able to squeeze a few hundred dollars less out of the dealer for the new one, and they will do the set up for me. Going to check out that galvanized one this week. If I can get him down a little in his price and sell mine for $1500 in the spring I wouldn't be out of pocket much for a trailer.

I will. If I don't have power in the boat yet can I split the registration costs with you? My go slow boat maxes out at about 9 on the GPS :lolhit:. Yes, 9, as in < 10. My gofast right now is getting bulkheads r&r'd so it is highly likely that I wont have power by June.

My rebuild of the Putt-Putt is an ongoing challange. :eekdrop:

 Now back to not hijacking the mans thread. :hijack:

We definitely should. Even if we just make a quick run to the cove and BBQ on the beach.

That is an insane project Khaos.....

Admittedly I don't know the historical significance of the boat but good lord, you're NUTS!!!!

On another note - Joby, on the poker run board??? That sounds risky...........

Sunrocket24 02-02-2013 11:34 PM

I'm going to try and get down in time for the run but not 100% positive I will make it down to VA in time for the run.

I have questioned my sanity on more than one occasion during the journy thus far. :)

Sydwayz,

I have been down here the last few days looking for a house. I used the agent you recommended, she is great! And worked very hard. The market was so tough down here everything she showed me was great and then when I went to make a move on a house the listing agent said the house was not available anymore. We were both getting annoyed. I ended up finding a house by military owner today. I thanked Kelly for here hard work and will use her again if we decide to buy or end up needing another rental. I found a great house in the Elizabeth Manor golf course subdivision, I think I was very lucky to find it! I can't wait to move down here. We will be down here July 1rst. The boating looks great down here! I saw lots of nice boats when I was near the water! I can't wait looks like a lot more fun than boating on the lake! Kelly showed me the portsmouth city park boat launch, it looks like a very nice park and facility. Can't wait to start boating with everyone down here!!!

Sunrocket24 07-04-2013 06:13 PM

I'm here! Got in yesterday evening! Got my first day of work tomorrow and the movers will also be here tomorrow! So I will be unpacking this weekend and next week. I would like to get out on the water next weekend! I haven't bought charts or a chart plotter yet for the area (just got a basic Garmin GPS right now). I will do that next week. I think I need a chart plotter for this area because it seems like boating will be a lot different than boating on a lake LOL!

I just looked that up on Google. Do you use the boat launch there and then camp out on the boat or at a campsite? The website says only boats to 28 no problem for me but you got a 38! So I guess the launch is nice? Any noise restrictions? I don't have silent choice.

Sunrocket24 07-08-2013 07:07 PM

How many people in the Portsmouth area use the Portsmouth City boat launch? I live about 3 miles from it, I drove by it and it looks nice but do I have to worry about tides and water levels? Or is there a better place to launch in the Portsmouth area?

As long as the wind is out of the SW all is good, Anything out of the NE/ N no water. When we camp we use the ramp and hang out at the boat all day. When we are not camping I use Centerville Waterway Marina's ramp and run down. Portsmouth City Park ramp is nice low waret can be tricky.

I've used it several times. With your size boat and it being a straight bottom, you should have no issue no matter what the tide, albeit you may need 4x4 to get up the slick ramp at low tide. If it is low tide, you will want to just nudge in when coming in, shut the boat off and walk it the rest of the way to the ramp. Same goes for launching at low tide. It's shallow until you get to the end.

The neighborhood is not so nice, but the park is clean and well kept. The local cops are very nice to the boaters and like to chill-out back there so there is usually a police presence in or nearby; but don't ask me how I know that. :D

seafordguy 07-09-2013 08:25 AM

I've used Portsmouth several times as well ( probably the same weekends Brian and Joby were there!! ). One other thing I would caution is that it is very steep - caused me to have an issue with my bow coming in UNDER the bump stop. I had to undo the stop and seat the boat then bolt the stop back on. I sorted that out by having a split bump stop made instead of those traditional little Teflon bumps. My trailer should have come with that from the get go though

Sunrocket24 07-09-2013 04:05 PM

Sounds good! Thanks for all the info everyone!

Sunrocket24 07-23-2013 08:03 PM

Hello again everyone,

So I have not been out yet since been busy unpacking and getting settled in,but I have bought charts and everything for the area and should be out this weekend or next weekend. My big question is where are all the anchoring spots, beach spots, and restaurant/bar spots are that everyone hangs out at when out on the boats???

I live in VB so I hang out around here almost all the time, The Lynnhaven Inlet has a couple ramps, one public and a private ramp at Bubbas that works fine if public is full. I try and run over to the tiki bar on the eastern shore once or twice a month, it can be a rough ride so you really have to pick your days, if there calling for anything over 10kts then it's probably going to be too rough. If you put in at Portsmouth City park you can run over to Ft Monroe in Hampton, there is a beach bar called Bay Beach club or something, the water is deep right up to shore so you can anchor close. Some guys also run up to Chippokes St park up the James River, too far for me, plis the cleanest water is in VB.

I am going to try and run to Tiki Saturday is weather is good, it's about 20-25 miles across the bay from VB, if you look at a chart the Tiki Bar is located just west of the fishermans Island inlet, it's basically the last structure before the Chesp Bay Bridge Tunnel.

Welcome to the area. I think I saw you found a Realtor but if not my mom is one and I am a mortgage consultant :). Anyways, I keep my boat over at Sunset Dry Storage in Hampton, Virginia. If you are dropping in at City Park, not too far from you by water for sure just across the Hampton Bay. Post some pictures up of your boat. Have you been out recently?

khaos 12-11-2013 06:11 PM

Sun Rocket are you here yet?(Did the boat make it?) How goes it?

Sunrocket24 12-13-2013 09:06 AM

Hi guys, yep we are here and settled in. We got the boat out 4 times but I ended the season in October due to my transducer leaking. I have the boat completly torn down and redoing almost everything. I hope to be done before Poker Run For A Cure. I have a thread in restorations & upgrades documenting the work I'm doing to the boat.
