Good place to launch in Maryland ?
Decided not to buy a slip this year. Any good places to launch around Annapolis or on the eastern shore. DNR lists a few locations but it really doesn't say how large a boat you can launch.
Thanks :party-smiley-004: |
Sandy Pt State Park is very nice. Not sure of operating hours. Probably on State of MD website.

Sandy Point is your best bet. We launch a 44 MTI there with no problem. I have attached a picture of the deepest ramp there. Hope this helps.

Safe to leave trailer and truck out there?
|
Yea it's safe at sandy point but i still use the typical precautions (i.e. trailer lock and locking hitch pin) and plenty of ramps as well as a nice turning radius for the trailer. You can leave out of the park 24 hrs a day so if you stay out late no issues. It's state maintained so its in nice shape.
|
Plus you can get a season pass for $75, that is good at any MD state park.
|
Good to know thanks. I am off tomorrow so I may go down and check it out.

Checked out Sandy point; lots of ramps lots of space looked great. I bought a season pass and will pickup a public landings permit for Queen Anne's county. Spent a few good Sunday's over at the Red Eye and the Jetty last year.

hanover street
has anyone ever launched anything over 35 foot at harbor hospital off hanover street in Baltimore? I have seen some 35's launch there but it seems a little steep.
|
When i was young My friends father would launch from there all the time because it was free. I've seen some big 35-38 foot cabin cruisers launched there from time to time. If you don't mind all the needles floating in the water and hobos hanging around there it's alright. Based on your signature you have a 42 sonic? I'd probably tow it Afew extra miles to a nicer ramp. Even if it cost Afew dollars. You prob have a nice tow rig and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my stuff there while I was out. I think you can launch at jaws marine? It's only 5 or so more miles up the street. I know they have a ramp there.. Good luck. Where do you keep the boat if you're looking to launch from there? Just curious.

Just read that they redid that one and the one in Centreville. Wonder how crowded they will be, and if there are size limitations.

That current RIPS though Kent Narrows. You had better know what you are doing at that ramp.
This is a decent ramp up near Baltimore: http://www.jawsmarine.net/contact.html |

+1 Been there done that. Its a challenging place to launch and even harder to load. Especially if you are broke down. And you better hope your trailer does not float. |

I did the same with a broken drive on my 37. It was impossible to even get to the ramp. IIRC, we rafted/tied it tight to my buddy's 24x7 Sunsation and drove them both over to the ramp like a twin engine boat. |

Not sure of their hours but it is a nice quality ramp and it's no no wake as soon as you leave there you can throw the coals to it. Dumps you out basically right at the patapsco bridge in Curtis creek. Give them a call and check hours but They are good people.

There is a ramp in Deale at Deale marine which is about 30 minutes south of annapolis. The ramp is okay, kind of narrow, but get there early because there is limited parking. I've seen cig style boats in the 40's be launched there and Tri state marine which is a grady white dealer launches all of there grady whites there, except the 36 because it is to narrow of a ramp to launch it there.
|
"Fishing Creek" in Chesapeake Beach is pretty decent too. Short no-wake zone.
|
I have used the ramp at Pier 7 in Edgewater many times over the years . There is plenty of parking and the it can handle big boats . Should be pretty easy to get to , you miss alot of the beach back up on 50 . IMO Sandy Point is best , but traffic can make it tough :cool-smiley-011:

The ramp across from Redeye's gets ugly on weekends, parking sucks. Very little parking for long trailers, we've gotten a couple of parking tickets because of where we parked. The ramp in Centreville is about 2 miles from my house, even at high tide I can't get the boat off the trailer.

+1 for Grasonville. Centreville wouldn't even chance it.
