Zack you should come down and visit, bring Dave (29 fountain), and Scott (32 Velocity) with you. let us know when you are thinking about it. If your still seeing Tia (it appears to be her on the bike) let her know that Phil and Jodi from Mohamet, and Rich say hi. If you have questions you can call me at 309-275-3436 for directions.

I will do that...yes, that is Teah. She wants to go to CLinton this year, so we'll give you a ring. I think I might be able to talk Dave/Scott into leaving the Illinois behind for a weekend.:D

:D :D Anyone for Lake Shelbyville this weekend? The water is finally up.

fastboat269 07-09-2007 08:42 PM

Does Lake Shelbyville have any muffler laws? Indy guy here that would like to try some new water. any info appreciated, good ramps, ect.. thanks

Frequency 07-09-2007 08:56 PM

I'm not aware of any noise issues. The ramp at Eagle Creek is the best in my opinion. There are a number of campgrounds around the lake that have ramps that will work for boats under 30'. Eagle Creek Resort, www.eaglecreekresort.com, has nice docks, a restaurant and lounge that we really enjoy. Lake Shelbyville also has it's own party cove if you like that sort of thing. There's a lake map at www.lakeshelbyville.com.

Eagle Creek Ramp has a sharp degree of dropoff at the top. Our 38's trailer scrapes. The one at Whitley is better for a long trailer

Thanks for the info Dave. It sure looks like a very nice lake. Les

Peoria Launch for 380 Avenger

where in the Pekin or Peoria area can we launch our 38 Powerquest. We used the Pekin public ramp for our 27 and the trailer went off the end into the mud. We like the run to Alton for a weekend trip and would like to avoid the Peoria lock if possible,if not we can live with locking thru.

Dave,

Pekin is going to be the best site to launch a 38 PQ. There is only one SMALL boat ramp on Wesley Road in Bartonville. It is no where near sufficient, plus it's not a very nice environment. I wouldn't leave my rig parked there, not sure you could even launch it anyway...

You might make a call down to Havanna. I haven't been there in a long time. There ramp might be better...

Frequency 07-13-2007 02:14 PM

Is the public ramps next to Eastport too short for a 38' ? I launch my 32' there all the time. My friend puts his Apache in at Detweiller. Could be an option if you don't want to lock through at Pekin.

Eastport will be fine. Dave

Dave, Pekin does indeed have a drop off and the water near the ramp is shallow. Be very careful if you launch there. If it were my boat, I would launch at Detweiller on the west side of the river at Peoria. You could launch at the public ramps near Eastport (Jonah's restaurant) on the east side but you will drag your trailer where the ramp transitions down from the parking lot and the water is very shallow there. You could pull down to Havana and launch at the ramps at the park there. Ramp is not too bad and the water is plenty deep. Only problem is the parking lot might be too small for a truck and 38' boat trailer.

It is an option but longer trailers can hang up on the ramp. We launched a friends 33' Outlaw there last fall and the trailer drug big time. Also have to be careful as there is not much water near the ramp.

PWRQWST 07-17-2007 10:27 PM

Havana would be good, a friend usually launced his 388 Slingshot from there and was ok he said. I always put in at eastport, trim all the way up though. The river is great to do around September when the leaves are changing.

Rich.

Dave Kline 07-18-2007 05:27 PM

Rich, We usually do the Pekin to Alton in August during my vacation. Not much debris in the river at that time except the Alton pool area always has trash. We go again for a Fall Colors Cruise to Alton in October with our boating club, USPS. May try launching at Havanah next trip as I don't want to damage the trailer or fill my engines with mud. The low water pickups on my drives are not shallow water friendly.
Dave

shorepower

Rich,

What length shorepower cord do you use for your 38? Ours didn't come with one. Do we need the 50' as the station is sometimes on the other side and the extra reach could be useful or will a 25' suffice?

I would think a 25 footer would be plenty. Do a test with a dock line to see how much you need.

There is a fun run on Friday if you want to join it. Might be something to consider since it is your first time down and you can follow the crowd.

Eagle Creek cove is just around the point of the resort, it seems to be a popular spot this year.

JMAASKE 09-03-2007 07:35 PM

Kaskaskia River, Rend lake and once or twice a year Carlyle. We also do LOTO, Shelbyville, Lake St. Clair and a few lakes in WI.

It is aka: Cove 4, It is across the from Marker 4 and back toward the west a bit. Directly on the west side of Eagle Creek. I believe that due to the water conditions, drownings and careless drunks there has been a migration to cove 4. We have been frequenting 4 all summer and find it much more enjoyable and kid friendly. Over the weekend there was probably 100+ tied up in there.
