Carb Issues Any Help??
De-Winterized this weekend and everything went fine except. It seems when the carbs are loading up when docking. It runs and idols fine but when docking in a difficult spot where there is a lot if forward and reverse going on they are getting too much fuel and tries to kill the motors. Adjusted the idol valves and they were non functional. I can take them all the way out and nothing.
Any Ideas or can anyone rebuild in STL or LOTO by this weekend?? |
If you turn them all the way in, does the engine stumble or die????
They need be turned in until the engine stumbles and then backed out a 1/4-1/2 turn. |
No they dont do anything. You can put them all the way in or take them all the way out with no response at all.

Could the needle and seats be leaking or possibly the floats are stuck and leaking fuel into the carb

What engines, and Carbs, NA or SC'd

They are 496's with Rochester 4 barrel nothing crazy about them no big cams and they are N/A

You need to remove the carbs dissassemble them and give them a good soak in a bucket of appropriate solvent. Your idle circuit(s) are gummed up and need a thorough cleaning. Air dry and verify. Mixture screws 1.25 - 1.75 turns out.

Rochesters, by the time you go through them or pay someone ( and i even do it ) you will have more invested in them than they are worth. Plus if you had any moisturein the past etc. they often times have corrosion in the open bowl area, To think that soaking it and reassembleing sounds easy and its fixed, doubt it. It takes time to do it right plus a gasket ( rebuild ) kit. oh yeah and patience if your doing it yourself. For the time line you are on, you would be money ahead to go get some new Demons, Holleys or Quick Fuel Technology carbs and have some nice stuff on there brand new. Don't forget fuel feed setups when you order.
