Same reason everyone else opens a hatch when Idling, to help cool the engines down. (Heat obviously rises and you can evacuate a lot of heat quickly by opening the hatch) If it is hot out I leave my hatch open when I stop somewhere as well so things cool down quicker and I am not greeted with a vapor lock situation when it is time to go. When you are running on plane a lot of fresh air gets pushed through your vents but at Idle it gets mighty warm in the bilge.
