Default 2008 LOTO Shootout Top Gun

No, turbine boats this year, so kind of a bummer not to see those 200 +MPH runs. Anyway David Scott is this years Top Gun Cat in his 50 ft. Mystique, at 178MPH.

Dr. Michael Jantzen in a Fountain won the Tog Gun Vee Bottom honors at 130MPH.

All in all lots on nice comments about the new location and how well everything went. There will be a DVD available of the event.

Thumbs up

I think Captain Ron's did a terrific job hosting. I heard a lot of the drivers saying the course was very different from the one at Shooter's so I'm sure those 200mph speeds will return in due time. Great time and kudos to all involved!

Did any of the drivers say what was different about the new course in terms of issues / problems?

The only problem I heard was radar was off satuday because they had to move the course but didn't move the radar guns, they fixed that on sunday.

There are some things they can do facilitate the start. The flags need to be bigger and brighter and they need a new idea to let people know how many boats it is until you run. You really need to know the 3 before you so that you can get geared up, engines warm and ready to run.

They only tell you who you follow so unless you start asking in the start area you don't know.

Also those finish line bouys are hard to pick out at the start of the run with all the boat traffic. I'm sure you get used to that after a few runs but it was harder to see than I thought it would be.

Overally, very minor things that need change from what I heard and saw. Someone that made more than 1 run might have some other ideas.

thanks to Dr. Janssen and team stampeed for the ride

From my perspective, I really liked the course. I ran on Sunday. Everything was clearly marked, you knew when you were in the radar traps. Overall, Captain Ron's did a great job. Had several slips ready for inspection, a great layout for vendors and people just walking around. The awards ceremony was top notch, a great idea of having it outdoors - even supplied a cold one to all the racers waiting in line for their award.

There were no rogue waves bouncing off the cliffs
and back out on to the course, like at the old course.

Diito to what Monty said too.

So the water conditions were significantly better/smoother at this location than at the Shooters location?
