Chicago area boating
Anyone do any boating on Fox Lake in Illinois or on Lake Shafer in Indiana? My wife and I are looking to go somewhere close for a couple days on the 26th and 27th of June. Wondering if these two lakes are worth going to? What are the M.O.'s of each area? Any other suggestions within 3-4 hours of Chicago?

Fox Lake (The Chain-o-lakes) is a hotspot for boating around chicago. Lots of boats and plenty of places to go on the water. Its a nice place to go but be carefull and ask questions as there are many shallow spots around if you are not familiar with the area. You also have Lake Michigan...if you launch from downtown chicago like from Diversey harbor or Burnham then you can go over to Michigan city....Milwaukee...hit the casino in East Chicago....run across the lake to the michigan side...plenty to do on the big pond.
I would also drive an hour or two longer and go hit LOTO...you cant go wrong there!

Thanks, Wally. We've decided to launch at Burnham and check out the city from the water. It should work out good with the Taste of Chicago starting that weekend. We've been to LOTO a few times and it's great down there, but we're just looking for a short trip out this time around. The Lake should be plenty entertaining.
