Been on the main channel for going on 12 years and 99.9% of the time I love it:

Our condo was on the main channel (17.5mm) and we built our house in Evergreen cove (17.5mm).
I will be the first to say, I truly miss watching the boats going down the main channel. We can hear them and see glimpses, but it is nothing like watching them from the bridge to the bridge.
The Boat parade coming into the cove is nothing to complain about, but it is not the same.
Dock wear: Being on the main channel, your dock WILL take a beating, the cables will have to be replaced much sooner (at the condo, we ended up replacing them every 2 years). We had a policy with the condo, the docks are for storage only, we discouraged any type of modifications for people to spend time on them ie: lawn chairs, platforms, etc.this was two fold, kept them much cleaner, but also safety, even as big as they were, with the weekend rough water, they got to rocking (we also had wave breaks).
In the cove, most all our neighbors have added platforms to their docks for outdoor living areas, it does rock occasionally but nothing like the main channel.
Bottom line in my opinion, see what is more important to you, view or playing on the dock, then look to purchase what you like best.
